Austin–Bergstrom International Airport, or ABIA (IATA: AUS, ICAO: KAUS, FAA LID: AUS, formerly BSM), is an international airport in Austin, Texas, United States, serving the Greater Austin metropolitan area. Located about 5 miles (8 km; 4 nmi) southeast of downtown Austin, it covers 4,242 acres (1,717 ha) and has two runways and three helipads. (Source: Wikipedia)
KAUS hosts a variety of airlines both domestic and international as well as the occasional military visitor. The primary airlines seen at KAUS are Southwest, American, United, and Delta, with Southwest making up the vast majority of the air traffic to the airport. International carriers include Copa Airlines, British Airways, KLM, Lufthansa, Viva, Westjet and formerly Hawaiian Airlines which discontinued its service from Austin to Honolulu on March 26, 2025.
KAUS fields two runways with 18R/36L seeing much of the widebody, cargo, and arrival flights and 18L/36R seeing commercial and military departures as well as both private arrivals and departures. For spotters, there is a dedicated viewing area on the north end of 18L/36R, which makes viewing and photographing departures and biz jet arrivals very easy. Austin-Bergstrom is a great airport to see Southwest's special liveries and some rarities in commercial aircraft (United 737-700, Air Canada A319, various biz jets) but lacks when it comes to military aircraft.
Two military aircraft do tend to appear on weekends at KAUS being the T-6 Texan II and T-38 Talon trainers most commonly arriving from Laughlin Air Force Base and Randolph Air Force Base, though T-6 trainers from the US Navy can also be commonly sighted at the TEXDOT ramp just to the north of the viewing area. KAUS occasionally gets rarer military visitors passing through, most often on weekends when other military bases are off duty. Some military visitors include F/A-18 Super Hornets, F-16 Vipers, and C-130s of various configurations.
Additionally, KAUS sees a variety of cargo aircraft pass through, such as contracted Boeing 747s which are around during races at the Circuit of the Americas (COTA) which can be found south of KAUS in the Del Valle region. Seen only twice thus far, An-124 Ruslan cargo aircraft from Antonov Airlines have landed at KAUS in order to deliver parts for the Tesla factory being constructed in Del Valle.
One more aircraft of note is the Zero G Corp 727-200F N794AJ, which operates public flights out of KAUS typically once a year if at all where passengers are able to experience low or zero gravity environments on Earth.
