Year 5 Central Teaching - More information

Year 5 - Core Clinical Cases (Year 5 GP Assistantship Block)

Intro day

We recruit GP tutors for the GP panel.

GP Tutors are invited to attend the interactive panel to discuss experiences and challenges faced during the pandemic and within GP generally.

Core Case teaching

Facilitating fortnightly virtual core case discussion.

This teaching will take the form of a series of cases for Year 5 students to work through. The idea is that the cases will cover ethics, medical complexity, uncertainty and decision making that will stimulate discussion and help prepare students for becoming junior doctors.

The GP tutor will support online ‘Core Case’ teaching. Each GP Tutor will have up to 10 students per tutor group and tutorials will run for 1.5 hours.

Students will be given time to prepare the material and review the cases online and then will meet on MS Teams/Zoom with their GP tutor to discuss the points raised.

Aims:

·        Regular contact with a GP clinician/mentor

·        Discussion of difficult scenarios and applied ethics

·        Allow connection with peers and the medical school during the Year 5 GP Assistantship Block

·        Provide blended learning for students and practice GP tutors.

Closing Day – Core case tutors invited to attend

Students will be invited to bring their own ethics challenge to the closing day morning so that core case tutors can facilitate these discussions in a safe environment for students to speak.
