Storyline Online is a free charity-based website that collects online recordings with acommpanying animations of a variety of children's storybooks. It is quite intuitive and easy for new users to navigate. (Community Review Of Storyline Online | Common Sense Education, s. f.)
The site provides information on each book, it's reader, the suggested level of the audience, run time and even activity guides for teachers.
It's main downside is the fact that the user is limited to the books available and they are all in English.
Its literacy programme has won multiple awards. (SAG-AFTRA Foundation, 2024)
This website/app is a free open source AI tool. It turns sketches accompanied by simple text into detailed AI-generated pictures.
It is intuitive to use but it lacks control over the image, as there are no ways to modify it within the programme beyond creating a whole new one. (Mukhtar, 2024). Depending on the browser and device used, it might take quite a while for the image to load.
The site then allows for the image to be shared with a link.
Once you've entered the website, you'll be met with its homepage. From there, you have three different options to select a book. You may click on ALL BOOKS to see their whole library, you may SEARCH on the search bar for a specific one you are looking for or you may click on one of the books being showcased at the moment. This last option will usually include topic-relevant books (like books featuring black characters on black history month), recent additions and other categories.
If it's your first time using this website, once you've clicked on a book, you'll be met with two different video player options.
After picking, you'll find the storybook video recording ready to watch. Click on it to start. You can add subtitles, change the size from default mode to fullscreen and lower or increase the volume. Enjoy!
The first time you use this site, you will be asked for a special TOKEN, which you can access through a Replicate or a GitHub account. Once you've typed/pasted the token, you can click the "start scribbling" button to process.
This step needs to only be done once, but it can be challenging for some users.
The button will lead you to a page with an example sketch and text. Clear the previous sketch with the "trash" button and make your own sketch. The "undo" button will allow you to erase your last action.
Once you've cleared the picture and text, you can sketch your own and write some text describing your drawing.
Draw!
A drawing tablet is ideal for this, but it possible to do with a mouse as well.
