General information:
Duration: 40 mins
Group: 20 students
Age: 10 years old
Level: A2 level
To be done at home:
This will be a flipped lesson of sorts. First, students will be asked to listen and watch "The giving tree" on Storyline Online at home.
In class:
The class itself would either need to happen in a computer lab classroom or with the computer trolley/personal computers
Warm-up activity:
The class will start with a short discussion of the story. Did the students like it? What do they think it is about?
Then the class will proceed with a more guided written reflection of the story. It would include things like: What other things does nature give boys and girls? Who is giving to you? Who are you giving to?
Development:
Then, the student's would be invited to think of a different ending, in which the boy is the giving one. First, they would write some of the things the boy could give. Then they would be turned into full sentences (the boy gives the tree fertilizer).
After that, with first some modeling from the teacher which should include at least one modification of their sketch, the students would sketch their objects in Scribble Diffusion.
Report/reflection:
Lastly, they could show their classmates and share what their new version of the story might look like. If there's time left, the class might also include a short discussion of how they found the usage of this new tool.
