Training Day 1

Overview

Training Day 1 is dedicated to the learning of skills used as a Health Scholar. Trainees rotate through different stations designated for different skills. After the trainer has presented the material, available time is for practicing and asking questions.

Training Day 1 for the Junior Scholar Program is dedicated to learning the use of CORE ELMS and becoming familiarized with how to schedule shifts, clock in and out, meet department coordinators, and learn key skills on how to integrate with the hospital staff.

Trainees will be provided with training material to learn during the day. The training manual also provides additional information about the program rules, policies, and scope of practice.

Schedule

Please arrive on time so that we can get situated. We will be turning away those who arrive late. We strongly recommend you to arrive 15 minutes earlier on each day. For those who still have pending clearance items, this will be the time for you to submit all missing forms to be cleared to shift on the hospital floor as an official Health Scholar once all training days are completed.

Skill Stations

Ambulating a Patient

Learn how to help a patient out of bed, assist with walking on the floor to take a closer step in the recovery process while maintaining within scholars' scope of practice when dealing with patients, and learn proper safety techniques to protect yourself.


Bathing a Patient

Learn how to bath a patient while maintaining patient privacy and autonomy.


Feeding a Patient

Learn how to assist a patient with their meal while maintaining patient's autonomy.


Positioning a Patient

Learn how to help a patient reposition on the hospital bed while respecting patient's privacy and learning proper safety techniques.


Transfer a Patient from Bed to Gurney

Learn how to transfer a patient from bed to gurney. This skill is mostly used to transfer patients between hospital floors.


Vital Signs

Learn how to properly take a patient's blood pressure, temperature, etc in the presence of a staff member.


Changing a Patient

Learn how to properly assist patients with their restroom needs while respecting patient privacy.
