Casey Township Library Board

January 4, 2024 – Meeting Minutes


Attendance: Karen Bradford, Shelley Crouch, Sharon Durham, Chrissy Squires, Susie Mathews, Debi Sinclair, Doug Stoutin, Librarian Gretchen Murphy and Tom Daughhetee, President of Friends of the Library


I. Call to Order: President, Sinclair, called the meeting to order at 5:00 pm


II. The Consent Agenda. Motion made by Durham to approve, Seconded by Mathews. Motion carried.


III. New Business, presented by Librarian Murphy


a) Friends of the Library

President, Tom Daughhetee, reported on the legal progress making the group 501 3c entity. Daughhetee has received the determination letter. 


b) Adopt Library Bill of Rights (ALA)

Squires made a motion to adopt the Library Bill of Rights (ALA). Crouch seconded, motion

carried by show of hands by board members.

III. Libraries should challenge censorship in the fulfillment of their responsibility to provide information and enlightenment.


c) Program: Silent Night

This adult program was organized by staff member Ridgley. The first night of this event was well received on Thursday, December 28, 2023 from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm with 12 adults attending. Silent Night will be a monthly event as long as there is public interest.


d) Story Walk

Families & organizations have come forward to sponsor 12 months of books for the Story Walk. 


e) Libby vs. Cloud Library

Concerns for the longer wait time to borrow books from Cloud Library have been voiced. Researching the cost of Libby vs. Cloud Library and possibly changing membership.


f) Donation of $50,000

The Casey State Bank made a $50,000 donation to the Building Fund. The Bank’s total donation in 2023 was $100,000.


IV. Motion to adjourn at 5:18 pm. Motion carried. Next Meeting, February 1, 2024 @ 5:00 pm
