Torremolinos was oorspronkelijk een klein vissersdorp, maar is sinds de jaren 50 door de opkomst van massatoerisme enorm gegroeid. Met een strand van 6 km is het nu een van de bekendste vakantieoorden.

Mijas heeft nog veel van haar oude charme, met de vele kleine witte huisjes die tegen de heuvel aan geplakt lijken. Het is een web van smalle straatjes, compleet met terrassen vol met geraniums, rode daken en poorten. Een van de meest ongewone tradities zijn de ezel-taxi's, op het centrale plein.
Mijas still has much of its old charm, with many small white houses which seems stuck on the hill. It is a web of narrow streets complete with terraces overflowing with geraniums, red roofs and gates. One of the most unusual traditions are the donkey-taxi's at the central plaza.
