The CA NGSS Statewide Rollout: Accelerating into NGSS

A two day professional learning series that actively engages participants in the shifts that the Next Generation Science Standards have brought to science education. This rollout was developed in order to support CA educators across a range of CA NGSS understanding and implementation. The two-day experience supports participants to attend grade-band strands or an administrative strand for focused growth that leads directly to classroom instruction.

The series includes :

An opening session centered on the overall shifts of the CA NGSS.
An immersive lesson session for each grade band TK-2, 3-5, 6-8, and 9-12.
A session designed to unpack the anatomy of the CA NGSS for each grade band TK-2, 3-5, 6-8, and 9-12.
A session describing phenomena and developing understanding of the Science and Engineering Practices for each grade band TK-2, 3-5, 6-8, and 9-12.
A session focused on the Crosscutting Concepts for each grade band TK-2, 3-5, 6-8, and 9-12.
A mixed grade experience centered on literacy in science.
A final option to choose a session from one of the following: a middle orhigh school session that clarifies the CA models for secondary science instruction, an immersive engineering lesson for the elementary and secondary grade bands, or session centered on adapting materials to better match NGSS instruction.
An administrator strand that allows site leaders to develop plans to support CA NGSS implementation at their sites.
