NORTHERN WYOMING - DIVISION 14
SHERIDAN MODEL RAILROAD ASSOCIATION
On Saturday 23 November 2013 we had the best attendance at our pre-Thanksgiving annual open house and train show with 213 people attending to see what the boys in the basement are up to. In the sixteen years that we have held a model train show, our usual attendance was close to one hundred with only thirty-four showing one time and they were mostly relatives. Of course, we have no idea why we had a good attendance.
Progress on the Black Hills extension is now evident with the backdrop painted with sky and clouds, and basic landforms have appeared. Buildings for the cement plant are in place to check clearances. Once the locations are satisfactory, scenery and track laying can once again proceed.
Club activities consist of a Tuesday evening operating session and a Saturday afternoon construction session. We do not neglect an occasional BS session, which has been known to last over several meetings. A typical operating session lasts for about four hours over two Tuesdays with seven trains having their cars (about 100 cars) delivered to destinations on the layout and a similar number sent to destinations off the layout. The construction session is now concentrated on the Black Hills Extension with basic scenery and backdrop painting being the major activities. Our philosophy is to try new construction methods on the club layout and never use ones that do not work on a home layout. So far we have not replaced much that did not work.
