Failure to Return a Competition Score

Recently, some members have been failing to return a competition score by 8pm on the day of the competition.

We understand that occasional issues with technology or forgetfulness can cause problems entering a score, and in these instances, the simple thing to do is to phone a committee member or email the committee a.s.a.p. at committee@braids-united.co.uk to explain your issue and provide the score.

Not returning a high score can unfairly impact the Playing Conditions Calculation (similar to the CSS under the old system) for members who do enter a score.

Under the WHS system for calculating your Handicap Index, in the event of a missing competition score the handicap committee can apply one of the following sanctions :-

Apply either

  • a penalty score equal to the HIGHEST score in your Score Record

OR

  • a penalty score equal to the LOWEST score in your Score Record

OR

  • a penalty score equal to a nett double bogey on every hole

Which penalty score is applied depends on the suspected reason for failing to enter the missing score. If there are mitigating circumstances, or you contact the committee in a timely manner, we will enter your actual score so it reflects your current playing ability.

The full explanation of the above can be found in Rule 7 of the WHS Rules of Handicapping
