Stress Management and Self-compassion

Navigating a layoff or the fear of a layoff can be a painful and lonely experience. Hannah Malvin, a Brown alum, coach, and workplace culture consultant, has been there and shares tools from positive psychology, the scientific study of wellbeing, to buoy yourself amidst uncertainty. She covers completing the stress cycle, mindsets and self-talk strategies for managing stress, and tips on rest and recovery. She also reviews the benefits of self-compassion, how it differs from self-esteem, dispels common myths, and shares tips on putting it into practice. This webinar was created to share tools for being good to yourself through a temporary, tough time that does not define you.

Speaker Bio

Hannah Malvin is a workplace culture specialist with 12 years of experience making work more equitable, effective, and enjoyable. A coach and consultant certified in positive psychology, the scientific study of wellbeing, her work is rooted in DEI, peak performance, and staff wellbeing. She has worked with Congressional offices, NASA, Amazon, the National Park Service, and others on workplace culture, staff wellbeing, and recruitment and retention of diverse talent.


Hannah program manages a public-private partnership and equitable hiring pathway for the environmental sector focused on people of color and underrepresented communities. Previously, she led a strategic planning initiative at The Wilderness Society to root relationships in equity by designing new systems of staff learning, knowledge sharing, and coordination. In 2016, she founded Pride Outside, a national organization advancing LGBTQ outdoor inclusion initiatives with Congress, federal agencies, and conservation nonprofits. She was a legislative advisor to Congressman Mike Doyle, covering health, foreign affairs, immigration, and more, and was Staff Director of the Congressional Autism Caucus.


Hannah earned a BA in Political Science from Brown University and is certified in coaching and applied positive psychology. She is Vice Chair of the Southern Appalachian Wilderness Stewards Board of Directors.
