Artifact Description: This is a PowerPoint that I used for my Elementary Literacy class at Trinity about different kinds of fairytales that can be used in a first-grade classroom.
connection to ITPS standard: This artifact is connected to 1E) understands the impact of linguistic and cultural diversity on learning and communication; when you look at the books that were chosen you can see that different cultures are provided so that my students can see themselves in these stories.
description of what was learned: I learned that having a diverse library in a classroom can help your students grow. Students need to see themselves in books or even just characters that look like them. This can be characters with the same background or even beliefs as the students.
Artifact Description: This is a self-reflection on how I think I was doing during student teaching at Worth Elementary School. I had 8 questions which I answered using my experience in the classroom at that point in the semester.
connection to ITPS standard: This artifact is connected to 1F) understands his or her personal perspectives and biases and their effects on one’s teaching; This gives an overview of my own personal perspective of my teaching and how I think I am doing.
description of what was learned: I learned how to reflect on my own teaching and learning. This will benefit me in the future when I teach a lesson and I want to figure out what I can do to improve it. I know that teachers are life-long learners so we must always reflect on our teachings.
