MANIC / LOVE

MANIC / LOVE is a robotic installation by Jordan Wolfson. A boy is enchained within a large cube, and the cube performs a choreography using the helpless boy by pulling the chains. A dance bordering between enchanting ballet and sadistic torture.

The work is all about the emotion and perception it instills on the viewer, and subtle tricks are being used to reinforce this. For example the puppet's eyes are small displays which allows the puppet to look visitors in the eye.

It can be seen as a counter-piece to the screaming cube example, not just because of the switch between victim and perpetrator, but also in that MANIC / LOVE depends on a lot of technology and big 'gestures' to make its point - but as you would expect the experience is strong.
