Funding: Horizon 2020 ERA-NET COFUND – Project BIO-Tide

Mentors: Dr. Bruno Jesus (University of Nantes) and Prof. Anders Meibom (EPFL)

Duration: 24 months

Job description

A postdoctoral position in microbial ecology is available immediately to work between the University of Nantes (Laboratory MMS – Remote Sensing and Benthic Ecology team) and the Laboratory for Biological Geochemistry (École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne). The successful candidate will conduct research aimed at quantifying photo- and mixotrophic C uptake by diatoms, and the effects of diatom and bacterial taxonomic and functional diversity on C flow to bacteria in intertidal sediments. The selected candidate will perform stable isotope labeling experiments combined with NanoSIMS imaging - correlated with, e.g., TEM and FISH imaging. A Ph.D. in Microbial Ecology or a related field and fieldwork experience are preferred. The work will involve a mixture of field and laboratory work with flexibility to collaborate with project partners at the University of Ghent (Belgium) and Muséum national d'Histoire naturelle (France).
