National Seminar on Career Opportunities in
Higher Education & Research
Ø The Department of Zoology Organized one day National Seminar on “Career Opportunities in Higher Education & Research” on 2nd January 2020.
Ø Dr. K. Shantha, Principal, St. Joseph’s Degree College proposed the welcome address and spoke about the objectives of the seminar.
Ø Dr. C.S. Sreenivasa Rao, Head, Department of Zoology, introduced the Chief Guest and explained theme of the seminar.
Ø The Chief Guest & Keynote Speaker was Dr. Suresh Kumar Kalangi, Assistant Professor, Stem Cell Institute, Amity University Haryana, Gurugram.
Ø He explained various career opportunities in Life Sciences. He also spoke about the significance of Research in Life Science and different career opportunities after Ph.D. in India and abroad.
Ø All the final year B.Sc., students from different branches of Life Sciences were attended the seminar.
Ø Students were participated in the discussion part actively.
Ø Finally vote of thanks was given by Mrs.Deborah, Lecturer in Zoology.
Faculty development programme on
Insights into Research
Ø The Department of Zoology Organized a one-day faculty development programme on "Insights into Research" on January 3, 2020, with the aim of improving the quality of research and imparting research skills to the faculty members of St. Joseph’s Degree College.

The resource person was Dr. Suresh Kumar Kalangi, Assistant Professor, Stem Cell Institute, Amity University, Haryana, Gurugram.
He spoke about formulating and conceptualising research problems, writing research articles, and converting research work into patent filings.
Our Principal Dr. Shantha shared her knowledge and experience on research and funding agencies with faculty members.
Faculty interacted with the resource person and discussed various aspects of research, including paper publication, research funding programs, etc.
Finally, the vote of thanks was given by Mrs. Siddiqua Hasani, Lecturer in Zoology.
The event ended with the national anthem.

Opportunities in Science Education & Research: India & US
The Department of Zoology Organized an invited talk on "Opportunities in Science Education and Research: India & US" on February 5, 2020 by Dr. Shabana, a Post-Doctoral Scientist from the University of Chicago, Chicago, US.
This programme was organized to create awareness among the students about fellowships for higher education and research in India and the US.

Dr. C.S. Sreenivasa Rao, Head, Department of Zoology & Biochemistry, introduced the resource person to the audience.
Shabana explained various options for higher education in India as well as the US. She gave information on different Indian and foreign universities offering courses for masters and research in life sciences.
Shabana also explained how to prepare for the TOEFL, GRE, and ILETS examinations and fellowships offered by universities in the US.
Students interacted with the resource person
Finally, the vote of thanks was given by Mrs. Siddiqua Hasani, Lecturer in Zoology.

Science Expo - 2020
The Department of Zoology participated in the Science Fair-2020 organized by St. Joseph’s College, as a part of the Silver Jubilee Celebrations from January 28th to January 30th, 2020.
Students from first, second, and final year B.Sc. participated in the Science Fair enthusiastically and exhibited various scientific models and posters on various scientific developments and recent advancements in the area of life sciences.
Dr. Raghuramulu, Lecturer, Government Degree College for Men, Kurnool, was invited as a judge for this event. He appreciated all the scientific models exhibited by the students.
Faculty and students from various colleges and schools visited the science fair and appreciated the exhibits and efforts put on by the students.
National Webinar on Know more about
your Thyroid
Ø Department of Zoology, St. Joseph’s Degree College was organized a National Webinar on “Know more about your Thyroid” in connection with World Thyroid Day on 25th May 2020.
Ø Resource person of this webinar was Dr. C.S. Sreenivasa Rao, PhD, Head, Department of Zoology & Biochemistry, St. Joseph’s Degree College, Kurnool.
Ø Introductory speech was given by Dr. Shantha, Principal, St. Joseph’s Degree College. She explained the importance of World Thyroid Day.
Ø Resource person was introduced to the audiences by Dr.C.V. Satyanarayana, Vice Principal, St. Joseph’s Degree College, Kurnool.
Ø Over one hundred people from different parts of India were participated in the webinar and interacted with the resource person enthusiastically during discussion part of the webinar.

Poster Presentation Competition
· Glimpses of artistic work shown by the students in pectorep competition:
First Prize winner Mr.Bhanu Pradeep receiving prize from the Principal, St. Joseph’s College, Kurnool.
A national-level online poster presentation competition on the theme "COVID-19 CRISIS" was organized by the Department of Zoology, St. Joseph’s Degree College, Kurnool, from May 24th to May 31st, 2020.
We received 297 responses from different parts of India. Individuals from different age groups, including school children, college students, teachers, professionals, etc., participated enthusiastically and exhibited their creativity and talent in the form of art and painting.
The creativity and innovative ideas to resolve the COVID-19 crisis were artistically presented and captured in posters. The artistic endeavours of the participants were highly appreciated by the faculty members.
A panel of judges appointed by the Head of the Department of Zoology, consisting of Sri. H.N. Prasanna, Head of the Department of Microbiology; Dr. C.S. Sreenivasa Rao, Head of the Department of Zoology; K. Sashikala, Lecturer, Department of Microbiology; Syeda Siddiqua Hasani, Lecturer, Department of Zoology; P. The posters were assessed based on rubrics such as relevance to the theme, design, and creativity.
After a thorough analysis of all the posters, the judges unanimously announced the following participants as winners:
1st Prize: T. Bhanu Pradeep, Kurnool, Andhra Pradesh
2nd Prize: Vaidehi A Nair, Chennai, Tamil Nadu.
· The prize winners were intimated through email. The first prize winner, Mr. Bhanu Pradeep, was invited to the college and the prize was handed over to him by the principal. The second prize was shipped to Vaidehi at her residential address given on her registration form.
National Webinar on
Natural Products and Health Benefits
Department of Biochemistry & Zoology, St. Joseph’s Degree College organized a National Webinar on "Natural Products & Health Benefits" on July 9th, 2020 from 4 to 5 pm.
The resource person for this webinar was Professor Vadlapudi Kumar, Chairman, Department of Studies in Biochemistry, Dean of Science and Technology, Davangere University, Davangere, Karnataka.
The webinar started with a prayer song and the opening remarks given by the principal, Dr. K. Shantha.
Vice-principal Dr.C.V. Satyanarayana expressed his opinion on the importance of natural products.
Over one hundred people from different parts of India participated in the webinar and interacted with the resource person enthusiastically during the discussion.

International Webinar on
CRISPR in iPS:
a new era in genomic medicine
The Department of Biochemistry & Botany, St. Joseph’s Degree College organized an International Webinar on “CRISPR in Ips: a new era in genomic medicine” on 16h July 2021, from 11.30 am to 1 pm IST.
The resource person for this webinar was Dr. Narasimha Telugu, Research Scientist, MDC, Berlin, Germany.
The webinar started with a prayer song and opening remarks given by the Principal, Dr. Shantha.
Vice-principal Dr.C.V. Satyanarayana expressed his views on recent trends and developments in science and technology.
The resource person was introduced to the audience by Dr. C.S. Sreenivasa Rao, Head of the Department of Biochemistry.

Field trip to Veterinary Hospital
As part of the III-year Zoology Practical syllabus, we took III-year zoology students to Government Veterinary Hospital, Kurnool on 30th November 2021.
Dr. Sunil Kumar and other faculty of the Veterinary hospital explained the process and methods of artificial insemination in cows, the equipment used, and semen storage methods.
Students had an opportunity to visit the hospital and study the methods of Artificial insemination and to interact with the doctors and clarify their doubts. This visit was very useful and informative for students.
