At our last session, Alex & Francisco joined us for their first event, helping us scatter seeds and clear a LOT of garbage! We walked the site and they allowed me the chance to reflect on how many positive changes we've noticed this year.
Here are some more interesting stats about the 2025 Season:
Total time spent on site: 25.5 hours
Total time spent on admin & documentation: 20+ hours (includes hours spent on Plant inventory)
Total bags of litter collected: 1.5
Total bags of invasive plants collected (garbage): 9
Total bags of invasive plants collected (left on site): 7.75
These stats only show a fraction of the dedication we know our stewards hold for Betty Sutherland, but it's still impressive to see the numbers!
Speaking of the numbers, Mario, Kriselle and I compiled this year's Plant Inventory which serves many purposes at the Toronto Nature Stewards (such as compiling yearly reports that are sent to the City of Toronto). This year we managed to document 90 species!! It was the most we've ever captured and it will be a great way for us to keep track of trends over time. Mario has compiled some interesting data specific to the plants we documented which is available on Discord.
Finally, on November 7th, Mario had the opportunity to attend the Urban Ravine Summit, where he participated in several talks. He has put together a beautiful summary that I've attached to this email (posted to Discord as well).
Whether you attended most of the sessions like our super dedicated stewards Kriselle, Bahareh and Mahdi, some of the events like Jamie, Bianca, Wendy, Chimine, Anne, Alex or Francisco, or none at all (but maybe helped spread the word about our work), we appreciate all of your efforts! We couldn't have done it without you!
We will return for our 5th Year in April 2026, so until then, feel free to join us on Discord (email for link) where we may continue discussions connected to ecology and visions for the future. Be sure to check your emails from TNS to reactive your account!
Thank you!!!
