Bahareh and I enjoyed the milder, warm morning yesterday checking on the most southern part of our site and removing all kinds of non-native plants: garlic mustard, wood avens, hedge parsley and even some garlic mustard! Highlights include spotting a beautiful Ebony Jewelwing, finding a black ash sapling and getting a heartfelt thank-you for our hard work by a park visitor.
There is still lots of work to be done, we have a lot of DSV that needs to be clipped and we also found a patch of garlic mustard that seems like a good place to target next week as there are also plenty of native plants to take over: wood avens, virginia creeper, goldenrods and riverbank grapevine. Though it is technically late in the season to remove garlic mustard, it is still worthwhile due to all the native plants interspersed in the patch.
Think you can help us make room for natives to thrive? See the details below for our next event!
A warm welcome to anyone new here as well! We hope to meet you in person soon!
