We did this as a class community last week. Sara K. Ahmed tweeted out a link for teachers to use to help us begin talking about the Attack at the Capitol on January 6th 2021. I began our conversation by sharing what was on my heart, and modelled how I might think about these questions. I asked for two students to share something that was in their news and together we completed the chart.
Our class community has started to incorporate this activity into our weekly routine on Monday mornings (printable to the right).
What I love about this activity is that it builds identity by asking "What pieces of my identity are carrying these feelings?" It also gives us the opportunity to think about what we have control over and what we don't have control over "What can I do/did within my control/power"?
