The Inn of the Lost Loves is an open air establishment. It has no walls or ceilings. Severian buys a meal for him and Agia to be consumed after the duel. While there, Dorcas bathes, Agia gets naked for Severian (nothing happens), and Severian finds a hidden note. Agia weeps and begs Severian not to read it.

Medoc - a general name for the red wines produced in Medoc, comprising all the best growths of claret.
ephor - a judge (or perhaps more properly, "referee") at the Sanguinary Field.
lechwes - Kobus leche, a kind of antelope.
St. Amand - a French monk who is famous for missionary work and founding numerous monasteries in Belgium.
atroxes - horrors; painted or sculpted figures to impress the public with a patron's danger and importance.
gateaux secs - the cookies or biscuits. French for "dry cakes."
camarilla - ("little room") a cabal, or kitchen cabinet, i. e. a group of secret schemers or unknown advisors.
pagne - a loincloth or a short petticoat, worn by uncivilized races, or retained by the more civilized as part of their costume.
misericorde - a dagger with a stiff, diamond cross-section or three-sided blade; used to dispatch a man in armor by stabbing through some chink, usually in the armpit. Name "dagger of mercy" because the sight of the uplifted weapon caused the intended victim to surrender.
Trudo - the ostler at the Inn of Lost Loves. He seems to come from the Algedonic Quarter.
