Agia and Severian visit the Jungle Garden where they seem to be in twentieth century Africa. They climb into a hut with a husband and wife team of missionaries and a naked native. The husband and the native seem to notice Agia and Severian's presence as ghosts. Agia urges Severian to leave, warning him that the hipparch will send assassins after him and those close to him if they perceive he is trying to avoid the duel.
