74.6/10 "...in the years before the ice came ..." This points toward a recent or current ice age.
77.2/36 Severian notes the painted sky, "... I was struck by how much it was than the true sky, whose blue is nearly black even on the brightest day." A reminder that the narrative is so far in the future that the sun is failing. It also indicates the antiquity of the Citadel. The ceiling is painted a brighter blue. The space craft has been grounded and used as a building for so long that the sky was lighter when it was painted.
