Objectives

Benefits & Responsibilities

This 22 - 23 school year, 6th grade team (3 students), 7th grade team (3 students), and 8th grade team (3 students) have been chosen to represent Lanier for UIL.

a) Calculator Applications: Students will take a test containing 80 problems in 30 minutes. The contest consists of problems which may include calculations involving addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, roots, and powers. Calculators are permitted. 

b) Mathematics: The contest consists of 50 multiple-choice problems covering, but not limited to: numeration systems, arithmetic operations involving whole numbers, integers, fractions, decimals, exponents, order of operations, probability, statistics, number theory, simple interest, measurements, and conversions. Geometry and algebra problems may be included as appropriate for the grade level. Calculators are not permitted. 

c) Number Sense: Students will be given a 10-minute, fill-in-the-blank test which they shall complete without doing calculations on paper or on a calculator. Erasures, mark-overs, and mark-outs are not permitted. Concepts covered include, but are not limited to: addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, proportions, and use of mathematic notation.

Students can take at most 3 subject exams, as follows and as permitted by the schedule.

The 2023 UH Contest will take place ONLINE on Feb 27, 2024! The contest is FREE!

University of Houston Math Contest 2024

 

Lanier Math Club is looking for potential students who can represent Lanier at the University of Houston Math Contest 2024 for High School Math Levels. The 2024 Contest will take place ONLINE on Feb 27, 2024!


The contest will consist of 9 Individual Exams as well as The SmackDown Event. Certificates and gift cards will be awarded to the top students from each individual exam. In addition, Team Trophies will be awarded and shipped to schools based upon overall student performance on the individual competitions. Individual exams will be given in the following areas:

Physics Number Sense Calculator Usage SmackDown

Students who sign up for UH Math Contest must past the Lanier Math Club Qualifying Test to be chosen to represent Lanier in the math competition at UH.
