Olfactory training is a retraining therapy for the loss of smell. Medically the loss of smell is referred to as hyposmia or anosmia. The process of olfactory training involves the repeated presentation of different smells through the nose to stimulate the olfactory system and establish memory of that smell. It was originally developed in 2009 by Dr. Thomas Hummel at the University of Dresden.
Hyposmia is a decreased sense of smell, or a decreased ability to detect odors through your nose.
Anosmia is the inability to smell anything. These conditions are not very common.
