Learning is a dual process; I improve my teaching methodology and materials while the students learn the subject. I value my students’ questions and suggestions in assessing my effectiveness in keeping their motivation and their understanding of the class subject high. Their feedback has enhanced my teaching skills and will continue to be important throughout my career. This constant learning from the students will make me a better motivator and a better teacher. I also attend courses, workshops, webinars, and meetings that are related to personal development. Some selected courses I participated in are as follows:
An inclusive teaching course
The XULA Brightspace training
#LearnEverywhereXULA
The clinical laboratory educators' conference
An advanced online student engagement course
An online mentorship education program
The Anatomage Conference 2023
I made the following improvements based on students' comments, my own observations, and teaching improvement workshops and courses:
In Human Physiology/Anatomy Lab courses, I changed the curriculum from a traditional monologue teaching method to an interactive team-based method. I assigned them to review the course materials and assessed them before and after team-based games on the digital cadaver. This new method resulted in a hundred percent attendance, engagement of students, and better understanding when I compared the pre-lab quiz results with the post-lab quiz.
In Human Physiology/Anatomy I and II, rather than assigning the students to read textbooks, I prepared lecture slides with appropriate information, understandable pictures and diagrams, and embedded questions that they could answer confidently with their cell phones. I also included relevant short videos that helped them understand the key concepts easily.
Design your webpage on Brightspace: The XULA Brightspace Training helped me redesign the class management system, Brightspace. This made it easier for students to access the information they needed.
