Occupational Therapy (OT) is a profession focused on supporting the engagement of individuals in purposeful and meaningful activities (occupations) they desire, regardless of their physical, mental, social, and emotional abilities. We are dedicated to making occupations and the environment fit the person, and not the other way around. An unknown author once stated, “medicine adds days to life, occupational therapy adds life to days.” Occupational Therapy plays a unique role in water safety due to the profession taking a well-rounded approach to each water-based activity in order to maximize positive engagement.
The DEx is a capstone project that cultivates both community involvement and research in the aim to address a gap in care. Additionally, this experience has the objective of displaying OT's unique role in a particular practice area, setting, and population.
The aim of this electronic portfolio is to captivate not only the 14-week DEx experience, but my journey throughout the doctor of occupational therapy program.
