The two following sections below are brief descriptions of my level II fieldwork experiences, completed between
September 2022 to March 2023.
I had the incredible opportunity to have my first level II fieldwork cover not one, but two very unique settings. I was fortunate to experience working in a partial hospitalization program, which at the time was fully run through telehealth. This allowed me to see clients in their personal environments and work with them on their roles, habits, and routines outside of the clinical setting. On various days throughout the week, I also participated in running groups within the inpatient psychiatric setting. This allowed me to see many of the clients before they came to the partial hospitalization program, and understand the experience of receiving well-rounded mental healthcare.
I was and still am so fortunate to have built amazing relationships with the people at these facilities. Everyone was incredibly kind and I cannot thank them enough for helping me grow in this profession. I learned more about myself and where I want to see the profession of Occupational Therapy go in these settings than I could have ever imagined. It was amazing to not only get to work in the area where OT got its start, but also see how our practice can collaborate effectively with diverse professions. My second level II fieldwork placement took place at South Shore Hospital in Weymouth, Massachusetts. At this facility I gained a tremendous amount of knowledge about the role of OT in the acute care setting in just my short 14 weeks there. This setting challenged me in many ways, but I grew to really enjoy these challenges as they made me grow as not only a future practitioner, but as a whole person. No two days were the same and I left every afternoon with new knowledge and increased drive. I met so many incredible individuals, which was one of my favorite components of acute care. It provided me with the incredible experience of working with a diverse interprofessional team, which is essential for effective and efficient health care delivery.
