"The Table in Front of Me" Series

Assignment: Create 3 paintings: two paintings from the objects set up on the table in the classroom and one painting from a table you set up at home. Classroom compositions explore the concepts of "Heaven" (objects contained within the frame; formal; structured) and "Hell" (objects that go off the frame; chaotic, unformal). Elements of the table for the at home composition should express meaning to you personally.

Life in Death

The Dark Visitor lights the way for a soul reborn.
too soon, you left me.
too long, I linger.

Your breath held tight against invisible walls,
your mind's lock - now broken,
memories bursting.

Deep cuts at the heart
releasing the seeds you planted,
love spreads through the wounds.

The fallen becomes shadow,
a stillness, swaying,
giving way to new growth.

Life's Edge

My plate is empty,
my world on edge,
and I am gutted straight through.

I try to juggle,
but I keep falling,
sinking further and further down.

Shadows of my former self.
a glimmer of light,
coming up for air.

Reminding myself
to find the beautiful
and always reach out for the sun.

New Life

Preparing my table
with a singular place setting.

Emptying distractions
and replacing with a new order.

Possibilities give sustenance
and feed my soul.

Saying grace
for this new life.

Conceptually Related Paintings (sketches)

Assignment: Choose a Subject and focus on a Concept to create a series of 3 or more paintings that are interrelated.
Subject: Surrealistic/dream-state representation of Heaven.
Concept: Exploration of images as they relate to spirituality and faith to create feelings of lightness, air, joy, hope, and reassurance.
