TERM 1

Using PEEL (Point. Elaborate. Example. Link) to Facilitate Oracy

The PEEL strategy, originally formulated for writing, has been thoughtfully adapted to cultivate effective communication skills within primary school students. Comprising four integral components - Point, Elaborate, Example, and Link - this strategy provides a meticulously structured model conducive to the development of articulate verbal expression. Within this pedagogy, students actively participate in discourse, systematically presenting a concise Point, Elaborating thoughtfully, substantiating with pertinent Examples, and astutely Linking their ideas cohesively. Through guided and purposeful practice, students naturally nurture the art of coherent and confident speech, thereby enhancing their capacity for comprehension and expressive competence, stimulates active engagement, nurtures critical thinking, and refines the art of effective articulation.

In order to move the learner forward, the student must be groomed to take on a more active role in the feedback process. Through this workshop, teachers will be enabled to use Hattie’s 4-levels of feedback, based on the individual learners’ needs. They will be able to practise feed up, feed back and feed forward. This will allow learning to be more meaningful for students and empower students to take ownership for their own learning.
