TERM 3

Building Human Connections and Resilience in Physical Education

When engaging in Outdoor Education related activities, students may be too focused in taking part in the activity that they may overlook the chance to build connections with their peers. According to studies, building connections is one way to build resilience in students. We used Appreciative Inquiry Questioning (AIQ) as a tool for Secondary 3 students to build connections with each other in a cycling module over a period of 5 weeks. A pre and post survey was administered to the students and results have shown an improvement in students’ perceived levels of the importance of and their ability to build connections.

e-Pedagogy and Self-Assessment in Physical Education (PE)

As teachers, assessment is crucial in our craft to understand if students are learning. Very often teachers frame self-assessment as an opportunity for students to reflect on their own work with the goal of learning more. Students will be looking at their work, in this case, a demonstration of a sport skill and judging the degree to which it reflects the execution of the skill. Using video capture and e platforms like Padlet, students will be able to assess their performance with the use of a skills check list. Participants will be able to learn how to curate video capture of students' performance and adopt a self-assessment check list for their PE classes.
