About us:
The Aabasaheb and Kamalabai Sardeshpande Central Library of Nya. Tatyasaheb Athalye Arts, Ved. S. R. Sapre Commerce & Vid. Dadasaheb Pitre Science College, Devrukh (Autonomous) was founded in 1972 with the primary objective of supporting the college’s academic programs. The library achieves this by providing both physical and intellectual access to information that aligns with the current and future educational and research functions of the college.
Role of Library:
The college library is often referred to as the “soul of education” and is considered the heart of the college. It plays a crucial role in the development of the curriculum and in satisfying the reader’s thirst for knowledge. The library actively participates in the college’s educational mission by collecting and disseminating information to meet the curricular and general needs of students, faculty, and staff.
The library also plays an essential role in supporting the college’s academic programs. It identifies, evaluates, procures, processes, and makes learning resources available to faculty and students for their teaching, learning, and research assignments. This is why Dr. S. R. Ranganathan, the father of Library Science development in India, famously said that the library is the trinity of learning resources, faculty/students, and library staff.
The college library comprises a reference section, journal section, reading hall, and stack-room. It boasts an exceptional collection of textbooks, reference books, general books, journals and magazines, encyclopedias, dictionaries, handbooks, manuals, bound volumes, CD-ROMs, video lectures, online resources, and other reading materials. Books are classified according to the Dewey Decimal Classification Scheme. The library has been a member of the British Council Online Library since 2015 and currently contains more than 6237+ e-journals and over 31,35,809+ e-books through its N-List Database.
