Commitment Time Frame: June - October

Committee Description: Advocates and educates in defense of intellectual freedom—the rights of library users to read, seek information, and speak freely as guaranteed by the First Amendment. Intellectual freedom is a core value of the library profession, and a basic right in our democratic society. (adapted from ALA)

Committee Expectations: 

• Develop training and education for library media specialists to ensure understanding of intellectual freedom

• To prepare and gather materials which will advise the library media specialist of available services and support for resisting local pressure and community action designed to impair the rights of patrons.

• To assume responsibility for the continuing education of library media specialists regarding intellectual freedom.

• Provide support to library media specialists in developing intellectual freedom policies

• Work with EdCamp committee for keynote speaker to close out the day
