Printmaking is the process of transferring an image from a created plate to another surface such as paper or fabric. It is an interesting process where one can create a work of art over and over again by re-inking a printing plate and pressing it against paper. There are many ways and materials that one can use to create a printing plate. For this activity, a piece of linoleum is used and carved away. The parts that are carved away remain blank, where the high spots will receive ink. The ink is then transferred to the paper and an image appears.
This lesson uses Photopea to easily edit a photo to create a strictly black-and-white version that can then be used to create the positive and negative space printing plate.
I have created a series of instructional videos with an EdPuzzle component for each step of this project.
