Arlo video doorbell merges the features of a normal doorbell and a highly sensitive security camera that is connected to your Arlo account that is linked to the cloud and sends a live video feed when someone is at your doorsteps instantly to the electronic devices your Arlo setup is connected.
Arlo provide firmware update to add some new features to the cameras. Firmware update is available once in a three month period and the larger updates are available once in a year. Most updates are available between 3:00 AM and 5:00 Am. Arlo Firmware Update happen automatically if camera is connected to the base station and battery must be more than 15%. If in any case camera is turned off or battery is low during update is happening, the update resumes automatically within 24 hours after camera was turned on. Internet connectivity is must for the firmware update. If for any reason update is not happened automatically, you can update your firmware manually by using Arlo app.

Steps to install Video essential doorbell (wire-free & wired):
You need to download the Arlo app to your mobile phone or tablet.
Create an Arlo account if you are new uses or log in to your existing Arlo account if you have one.
Ensure that you are connected to the 2.4 GH network and sign in to the app.
Select Add New Device > Doorbell and Chimes > Essential Video Doorbell Wire-free.
Follow the instructions
You need to enter your WiFi credentials.
Use the included release pin to remove the mounting plate from the doorbell and then insert the fully charged battery.
Keep the mounting plate and doorbell separated until promoted.
Make sure to keep the release pin in a safe place for further use.
Press the doorbell button to sync, the white LED will begin flashing.
Hold the QR code from your app about four to six inches in front of the doorbell and wait for the success tone.
Name the doorbell and follow the prompts, your firmware will be updated and it might take a few minutes.
The app will prompt you to select between 2 power ring options .i.e. battery or wired.
For wire-free installation:
Select the Battery Powered option.
Then find a mounting location.
Select either the flat or optional angled mounting plate to optimize your viewing angles.
Once you selected the place where you want to place your mounting plate install it approximately 48 inches above the ground, it is very important to position the terminals at the top and to reserve a 2-inch clearance above the mounting plate, so can access the release hole later when you want to recharge the battery.
Secure the mounting plate with the screws provided.
At last, insert the doorbell to the mounting plate in down and motion.
Click sound will be audible to you, press Finish, and your Arlo set is finished.
For Wired installation:
Tips: Ensure your existing doorbell system has 16 to 24 volt AC. Turn off the power to your at the breaker. If you need help contact the local electrician or local to assist you.
Remove your existing doorbell and be sure carefully that the wires do not fall back into the wall (secure the wires with the help of tape).
Then select a mounting plate that will optimize your viewing angle, depending upon your mounting location you may want to use an angled mounting plate, once you have selected your mounting plate install it approximately 48 inches above the ground, it is important to position the terminals at the top and to reserve a 2-inch clearance above the mounting plate so it is easy to access the release hole for further use.
Connect your existing wires to the terminal on the mounting plate, either wire can connect to either terminal. Now insert the Arlo doorbell to the mounting plate with a down and in motion. Click sound will be audible to you then turn the power back on at the breaker to restore power to your doorbell.
At last, the app will prompt you to test your existing wired chime.
Press finish in the app and your video doorbell is ready.
Note: If your existing doorbell system does not provide 16 to 24 volt AC, then you need to install a doorbell transformer. When you buy an Arlo essential video doorbell in Europe, you receive a package consisting doorbell transformer, which is meant to replace your current doorbell transformer as this doorbell transformer is 24 volt AC.
Warning: do not install the doorbell transformer yourself, ask a local professional for help.
If you install the transformer, your current doorbell chime will no longer be in use if it does not support 24V AC, then you need to enable bypass mode on the Arlo Power Kit to prevent the doorbell from random ringing and destroying your chime.
Enable bypass mode on your Arlo Power Kit switch on to the “X” mark on the Arlo power kit.
Now turn off the traditional chime settings on your Arlo app:
Start the Arlo app.
Click on Settings > My Devices.
Tap on Arlo Video Doorbell.
Click on Traditional Chime > None.
If you want to hear a doorbell sound when someone presses your Arlo video doorbell, you can buy and install the setup of Arlo Chime.
For using Arlo Chime with the arlo video doorbell wireless both should be connected to Arlo Base station or Arlo Smarthub, installing Arlo Chime is additional as you will still receive doorbell calls on your electronic device in which the Arlo app is installed.
