Daily Schedule

First 10 minutes of class: Do Now

Most every class period you'll begin class with a "Do Now," which may also be thought of as accessing your prior knowledge that you bring to the class and/or an introduction of new material. This is a way of priming you (getting you ready for the lesson). I will be taking role at this time and actively previewing your responses. If you have questions during this time. I ask that you type them in the chat. I will respond to you as soon as I can.

Next 40 minutes: Instruction and Student Work Time

This time will consist of a variety of activities that may include...

lecture

guided practice

collaboration

student independent work

The content and process of this section of the class will depend on previous lessons and our situation within the unit.

Last 10 minutes: Exit Ticket

This will be another button linked to a form, but its purpose and nature will depend on the learning activities of the day.

Homework: Depends

My intention for homework this semester will be to exclusively focus on Advanced Placement preparation. Advanced Placement preparation homework will be primarily for extra-credit rather than a scheduled grade.

Other continued classwork may also be included in this category. In this case the points will count as traditional work and will not be extra-credit unless otherwise specified.

Communication

We will be working collaboratively, so it is important that you do communicate with each other and me. This means that you do need a microphone and speakers so that you may contribute. If you don't have access to this, please let me know perhaps by email or in the Zoom chat box. You must also communicate respectfully. I have not encountered any rudeness among students, but I just want to clarify this if there were any questions.

Attendance

You must come to class every day. If you cannot come to class, then you must inform me as soon as possible. You must remain in class during the scheduled time period unless instructed to do otherwise.

Class Participation

I understand if you do not wish to speak in class; however, I would appreciate it if you would make an effort to communicate either vocally or in the chat box on Zoom. Class participation also includes completing work on time. I understand if you difficulty completing work due to technical difficulties, but delaying work will significantly impact your progress in the class and learning. If you need help, please visit me during student support.

Late Work

Due to the circumstances, I will take late work with the following exceptions:

Do Nows and Exit Tickets:

These must be completed within a one day time period. If you would like to complete it after this time, then you must attend student support.

All other work:

If you turn this work in late, then you'll need to wait until the next progress grading period for the gradebook to be updated.

Work and Grades

Remind: I do not use remind because I believe that you keeping up with your own schedule will enable you to acquire adaptive skills that you will use after high school, but I do use a class calendar, which is located on the homepage of this website. If you do need help keeping up with your work, then I suggest using some sort of planner. I use Google Calendar, but any will do. I

Do Now: The Do Now will usually be 10 points.

Exit Ticket: The Exit Ticket will usually be 20 points.

Classwork: Classwork will range from 50 to 100 points.

Homework: Will be extra-credit. Late work policy for this work is TBA.

Tests and Exams: I do not give traditional tests and exams. Every test and exam will be either written essay-style response or a project. Points will range from 100 to 200 points.

Extra Credit: Homework is the only form of extra credit. Everyone has access to it at announced times; however, revisions of classwork and homework will be allowed if you failed on the first attempt. If you passed, then the only form of extra-credit will be the announced homework activities.

I prefer for you to email me rather than send me messages through ItsLearning because I do not receive notifications from ItsLearning.
