The Band are in the garage with Diminuendo.
Diminuendo: Look, in the past we've done posters that are just, Time plus Location plus a picture of your instruments. You guys already know the cops pretty well, so there's no point in hiding faces anymore. Plus it'll probably end up being better that people know its you guys playing because it's you they want to listen to. I mean you guys are awesome and word has spread but it can only spread so far with "oh yeah there's this band who play at this location and this location every other day". You need a name. Something that can easily be passed on and talked about. So people can say "oh have you heard of blank. If you haven't they are playing here. All my friends know blank". It's so much better. Give me a name to put on the poster by the end of the day. That's your homework. Commit to it. Make sure it's right. Make sure it feels like you. Ill see you all in a bit.
Diminuendo leaves.
Triplet: Ah fuck. I've dreaded this day.
Forte: What, because it makes it real?
Fortissimo: We were always real Forte.
Triplet: No, because we have to assign ourselves to a thing. A style. I've never wanted that. It's confining and people make assumptions.
Viola: Do people have any ideas?
Crotchet: How about MAD. Just the word. Because that's what you all are.
He grins.
Piano: Hey!
Crotchet: Except you Piano, sorry!
Forte: How about something like... Epic Cast. Because we are an epic cast of characters if I do say so myself.
Fortissimo: That word died like YEARS ago Forte, Piano probably hasn't ever even heard that used.
Viola: How about something more upbeat. Like Reincarnation or Phoenix. Because we're resurrecting music from the ashes of the past?
Triplet: Firstly, that's cringey. Secondly I think there have been multiple bands across history with those names. It's too generalised.
Piano: We could just call it The Band.
Forte: As much as I love your ideas Piano, it doesn't really evoke a sense of personality or emotion does it?
Crotchet: How about if we related to an animal? Like Vulpine or Cerberus?
Viola: I don't really see us as foxes, and Cerberus only has 3 heads and there are 6 of us. Back when it was just Triplet, Forte and Fortissimo maybe.
Triplet: How about something more emotionally resonant? Like "Swift to the Flames" or something. It's a metaphor and it feels cosy. Like we're all rushing to be tother around a campfire. Or it could be perceived as something stronger, like we're rushing to stoke the fire of resistance.
Piano: What does all that even mean?
Forte: Yeah that one may be a bit too complex. Since it doesn't really mean anything, it doesn't really invoke a sense of identity either.
Viola: I think what I'm getting from this is that want something that's simple. A few words max. Not a metaphor or a simile. Something easily understood and cant be misconstrued.
Triplet: Maybe we should start with what this band means to everyone and go from there. For me, this means freedom. Resistance. Being my own person. Proving people wrong.
Forte: Not being jailed. Not under lock and key. Friendship. Family.
Fortissimo: Strength. Togetherness. Directed anger. Raising my flag.
Viola: Openness. Honesty. Consistency. Kinda like the sea I guess. Sometimes the waves crash strongly and sometimes they're smooth.
Piano: Safety. Home. Happiness. Protection. This is where I want to be. Like all the time. I dont want to be anywhere else than with you guys.
Crotchet: Dreams coming true. Looking to the future. Overcoming the past and previous trouble. Acceptance.
The band takes a second to wash over how much the band actually means to them.
Forte: Man, this was nice and all but we really need to get over this and think about the name, that didn't really get us anywhere. laughing
Triplet: WAIT, FORTE THAT'S IT!
Everyone stares at Triplet.
Forte: Huh?
Triplet: Everyone in this room had been told to "get over it" right? Like get over music, get over being upset, get over the loss of something or move past it.
Fortissimo: Yeah but what does that actually -
She gets cut off by Triplet.
Triplet: I mean it's a phrase that applies to all of us right?
Crotchet: Yeah, but arent we playing into it? Like if we named ourselves "Get Over It", wouldn't we show we werent over it?
Triplet: That's the point. We shouldn't be over it. We dont need to. Our lyrics and our music show we arent. You can even take it into a more positive spin if you want. Like we need to be able to overcome HARM and the be the ban on music. The "It" being HARM we need to get over and overcome. It looks forward while looking back. We're all here because of our past. But this is something that takes us forward.
Forte: All in favour?
Everyone in the room puts their hand up, including Diminuendo, who just got back.
Diminuendo: I like it everyone. I'll get to work. Good job. Just in time too!
Piano seems happy about Diminuendos encouragement. The band bask a little bit in the revelation about their name for a while.
Fortissimo: Well no use sitting around. How about we make "Get Over It"s new song in celebration hmmm?
Everyone almost jumps up out of theirs seats excited to get to work. Triplet runs over to grab her notebook and starts flipping through eventually landing on a page and starting to scribble on it.
Triplet: I think I have a song in mind with a couple of adjustments that fits with a celebration of out new name. Let's get to work.
Everyone crowds around Triplet, trying to add in ideas and find their part in the new song.
POST NOTICE: From here on out where the ensemble of the main 6 characters (Triplet, Forte, Fortissimo, Viola, Piano, Crotchet) was previously mentioned as "The Band" going forward in stories they will now be mentioned as "Get Over It". This episode is clearly much further in the future of the Get Over It story as it has Diminuendo in and he hasnt even been introduced in these main episodes yet. As mentioned at the bottom of the Main Story section the episodes are listed in terms of when they where written, not in chronological order of when they happen in the story. It's just that some stories are important enough to be main episodes and others are not. As I write more and more stories I may think about sorting them chronologically. Hopefully that will make it more readable in the future for everyone.
