Get Over It are in the Garage with Diminuendo and Bass. They're all sitting in their usual spots, the feeling of the room is super relaxed.
Bass: I think it's about time, right? Looks at Diminuendo.
Diminuendo: Sure, if that's what you feel. I don't mind rushing this to the front of the queue.
Bass: If you could, that would be great.
Diminuendo: I'm on it. Ill catch up with you lot in a bit.
Diminuendo leaves and among the chorus of goodbyes, Bass' voice shines through.
Bass: Right, all of you. Let me be frank. You guys rock BUT you've exhausted options here. Like sure we have a consistent venue and we sell consistent tickets and it's safe and workable. However, if you want to do this, and I mean actually want to do this - as in standing up for what you believe in, you have to spread the word to more than one small beachside village. You guys want to start something, you need to be present more than here. Do you want to be the rock band actually inciting change or just the band at the local venue for the next 20 years? Because if it's the first, what we have right now isn't going to cut it.
Get Over It all give each other looks and nods.
Triplet: Okay, what do you suggest?
Bass: Glad you asked. I've done some scouting in the next town over - there's definitely a place we can use and some of the residents there already know about you and have taken a train ride down just to see a show. I've got Diminuendo working on some posters now - how about we go up and play a show for them?
Piano looks nervous.
Piano: Isn't this going to, you know, bring more cops on us?
Bass: Sure. But expanding outwards and upwards always will. If we have a goal of real social change, then you have to let people know. That means the cops as well. At the very least I can guarantee the venues safety and that the cops still don't know about the garage. Ill be here anyways just in case, but I really don't think it could hurt. You guys have dealt with the cops fine before, so what's a few more of those situations. That and I don't think anyone has grassed you guys up yet from the shows. Also I don't think the cops care that much right now. They might have you guys on file, but they're not actively chasing you or anything, and that's kinda a bad thing. If the cops don't think you are worth their time, that probably means they think you're not a threat and wont achieve anything big. How about we take the first step to proving them wrong hm?
Get Over It seem excited - except Piano who seems to be holding herself in the corner, trying to work up the confidence for something.
A FEW HOURS LATER.
Get Over It are packing a ton of equipment in the garage in prep for a show the next day.
Forte: Right, everyone ready for tomorrow?
Viola: I've definitely got everything.
Everyone seems to be nodding in agreement, while Piano seems to be upset while packing her Keytar away.
Fortissimo: Should be all good!
Triplet: Crotchet, can you do a quick last check please? Might as well ask the person who is actually doing all the set up tomorrow.
Crotchet: Yep, we seem all good to go. Remember, early wake up tomorrow to catch the train. Set up at the Venue, play the shows because we're doing multiple runs as the venue is small and we want everyone to get a chance to see us, get the last train back. Its going to be a long day so I recommend we all sleep early.
Piano: (In a small voice) But...
Over the excitement and goodnights, nobody seems to hear her. As she climbs up into Fortes overhang to get to sleep, Forte notices her being out of sorts just before lights out.
*Click.*
Forte: (whispers) Piano, are you still up?
Piano: mmm-hmmm
Forte: You don't seem okay. Mind telling me what's up?
Piano turns away and shakes her head fast.
Forte: Okay, well you don't have to. But it would make me real happy if I could help. Also, getting the feelings out instead of in will help you get to sleep early in prep for a big day tomorrow.
Piano still shakes her head. She turns around and reaches her arms out without saying a word.
Forte: Alright, if it'll make you feel better.
Piano nods.
Forte: C'mere.
Forte envelopes Piano in a big hug, after which she goes to sleep immediately. Forte has a small smile on his face and ruffles Pianos hair, then lies down and goes to sleep himself as well.
The morning is a rush of double checking and prep. After walking to the train station and getting on the train, Piano seems more anxious than ever before, tapping her foot fast on the ground and trying not to bring attention to herself.
Triplet: Hey Piano, are you okay? You're doing one of my drumbeats over there.
This gets the attention of the band who all look over Pianos way from their other conversations. Piano looks over at Forte and Forte nods back.
Piano: I... I'm not comfy.
Viola: Oh dear. Piano, I think what you mean is that you're nervous.
Piano nods.
Fortissimo: Don't try and play it off as something that doesn't matter then. It's completely fine to be nervous. Hell, we all nervous for our first shows.
Forte: Fortissimo was super cute when she was nervous back then haha!
Fortissimo: Hey!
Sensing some semblance of normality, Pianos foot tapping slowly calms down.
Triplet: I get it Piano, we've been in a safe, comfy space for a while. You weren't nervous on your first show in our normal building because we were taking you and we knew everyone there, and you trusted us, so you trusted them. Here we don't know anyone, it's completely new people, new audience members and you're worried about that right?
Piano nods.
Crotchet: Piano, I'm really nervous too by the way. Look, we all are. We just need to channel that into our performance. But apart from that, I have faith that Bass wouldn't give out tickets to people who would be mean to us. You trust Bass on that right?
Piano: Yeah.
Triplet: Piano, let me be honest, I'm completely bricking it, but you know what? I'm sure when I get up there playing music Ill be just fine. It's a show like any other show, and Ill have fun. It'll make that uncomfortably melt away because despite the new space and new people, I'm doing something I've done before that IS comfortable and that I like doing and that's playing music.
Fortissimo: You believe in us and you believe in our mission right? If you trust in that, then there isn't a reason to worry. We always got you.
Forte: Look it takes a while to get over nerves. Lord knows some of us never do. It took me ages to feel comfy on stage. But because I knew I was there with my sister, someone who could back me up and believed what I believed in, I didn't have much to worry about. You can trust us.
Crotchet: Absolutely, we got you if anything happens okay?
Viola: Believe in us, and trust us and hopefully it'll give you the strength to get through it and have fun okay! Turn all those nervous jitters into the energy on stage.
Piano seems a lot happier and calmer after this. She perks up and engages in other conversations on the train ride there. After getting to the Venue, she still seems a bit jittery during set up but she does it all with a smile. The band smile back and try to give her confidence throughout the day. As the first show is about to start, Piano looks outside at the longest line of people Get Over It have ever had for a show. She runs back backstage and is almost trembling and people walk in and the lights start going down.
Triplet: Hey, Piano come here for a sec.
Piano slowly walks over and Triplet envelopes her in a big bear hug.
Triplet: whispers in Pianos ear Hey, don't worry. You're going to do great. You're not going to make any mistakes and even if you do we'll cover it up for you and I'm sure they wont be big ones or anything noticeable. You're not going to ruin it for us no matter how much you think you will, we're going to have fun and we'll have even more fun because you're here. We got you if anything happens okay? We are all backing you up. We are all super proud of you and you're amazing and brave, and I could not have done this at your age alright? You got this. Now lets go and kill it out there.
Triplet pulls away and puts her fist out for a fist bump which Piano takes. Piano seems more energised after the speech. As they walk on stage with the lights down, Piano takes one last look at the band behind her, who all give her smiles and a thumbs up. During the show, Piano seems nervy at first but gains more and more confidence as time goes, and by the time the 3rd song comes on, she is back to her usual self.
After the shows, during the pack up.
Fortissimo: HOLY SHIT, THAT WAS AWESOME! IVE NEVER SEEN SO MANY PEOPLE IN THE CROWD ROCKING OUT! AND THEY WERE ROCKING OUT TO US! OUR SONGS, OUR MUSIC, HELL YEAH!
Fortissimo gives a massive high five to Forte.
Crotchet: And this is the most money we've ever pulled in from tickets and donations, this is nuts.
Triplet: PIANOOOOOOOOO, YOU WERE AMAZING OUT THERE. NO MISTAKES, NO NOTHING! WHAT THE HELL GIRL. NERVES PSSSSHT, YOU'RE AWESOME!!!
Viola: Yes Piano! You did amazing!
Piano is showered with compliments from the band. She blushes and seems very happy with the outcome and it looks like she's gained a lot of confidence. Get Over It go onto do many more shows at this location and it seems Piano is super comfortable and happy to go wherever the band lead her from this moment on.
