Viola and Crotchet are in the garage. Crotchet is working on a track with Viola listening in. The rest of Get Over It are out, likely working on something at Diminuendos.
Viola: Look, I don't mean to pry into things I don't understand at all but the bass guitar just doesn't sound like a bass guitar anymore?
Crotchet: Ah fuck. Sorry about that. You're right Viola, I just got tunnel visioned into... creating a sound I guess.
Viola: Hey, what's wrong? There's something up with you, you're almost never like this.
Crotchet: That obvious huh? Look, I just. This is the place where I contribute. This is the place where I work. I'm trying to add more, do more, so like, I come through in the recording. Other than that, I don't add too much. It kinda feels like I'm a waste of space up on stage. This where I should be. In the back. And I'm completely fine with that, but yeah. I'm kinda doing too much, trying to be noticed. Sorry for doing too much with it.
Viola: Nope, nope and nope. Stop self deprecating. You're such an important part of this band Crotchet. Our sound wouldn't be the same without you. You do things with sounds and music that draw more people in to listen. They wouldn't be there without you there.
Crotchet: I mean, I think they probably would. Adding effects or panning or whatever, kinda takes away from the natural sound of what this is. Whenever bands came into my old studio, my mentor always told me not to do too much with them on the backend, you want the sounds to be authentic. I'm just kinda messing this up.
Viola: You're not. Look, remember when Triplet wanted that one chord to go on like FOREVER, because that was the vision for the song and it simply didn't work with a single sustain pedal? Who fixed that and made it work? You did. Not only does it work on the recording, it also works live and I'm not even sure how you did that. I still don't. Without you here, the songs wouldn't be as good as they are, they wouldn't be the full complete idea of what anyone would want them to be. You make the band complete.
Crotchet: It's a single example. It doesn't change much Viola, and it's something I could easily do from behind the back wall instead of on stage.
Viola: As Triplet always says, you're creating music. So you deserve to be on stage. People see and notice your contribution. If they didn't people would be asking "Who is that guy up there? Why is the sound tech on stage?" But nobody has ever asked that because they know how much work you do and how much you add. You think we could set up in time without you there? Fortissimo and Triplet probably make us half an hour late to start with their antics. You think Fortissimo retunes her guitar in time for the songs she needs to retune for? She almost always forgot before you were here. And when she did remember she'd take like 3 full minutes to find it. You just know naturally where everything is supposed to be and when. Without you our songs wouldnt be the same. Wouldnt have the same emotional tone that Triplet wants. Wouldnt be as deep or as layered. Remember the time Triplet wanted a song to sound "darker" and no one could recognise what that actually meant or how to do it except you. Raised the volume on the Bass, moved the tones down, and you made it sound like a completely different thing. And then you thought of a natural way to do it live as well. Triplet was ecstatic. You made it sound how it sounded in her head. No one else could have done that. The call and response thing on that one song. Where Triplet said the song was about having a conversation with herself in her head, and you distorted the voices so it was clear to see who was saying what in the conversation. And then you did that LIVE. What do you mean you dont contribute. Stop being silly. The crowd goes nuts for the stuff that you add. Especially on Fortes solos. Or the sound mix, which somehow you can change the levels between 5 instruments in seconds and change the tone. I could keep going for more reasons, but you should understand the point by now.
Crotchet: I didn't think all that was noticeable. Not really anyways. Just some small things to make it sound just 2% better.
Viola: Of course its noticeable. You literally make the songs sound how they do. That's an insult both to us, that you think we don't notice it and to yourself that you don't think you contribute. And no one insults my bandmates. You hear?
Viola pulls his ear.
Crotchet: Alright, alright, I get it, let go! laughing. I got you.
Viola: You contribute just as much as the rest of us Crotchet. Now I never want to hear you insult my bandmate again you hear?
Crotchet: I hear, I hear. Thank you Viola. I just get into this mood sometimes...
He gets cut off by Viola.
Viola: Anytime, don't you worry about it. Now lets keep this up, so we can show the guys some amazing music when they come back alright?
Crotchet and Viola get back to work on the song.
