CORN CRAKE (Corncrake) Crex crex AE*.
Passage migrant; rare - former breeder. Birds of Anglesey (2004) sets out that Corncarke was historically abundant, a marked decrease in numbers was noted around 1919/1920 with the species first being relegated to a ‘regular summer visitor’ by 1940 and then to ‘scarce’ by 1945. The last ‘probable’ breeding was said to be in 1994. Records since the last probable breeding in 1994 are detailed below:
