The following sub-pages detail bird species where records are assessed by the British Birds Rarity Committee (BBRC). The list of species can change over time with species being delegated to the Welsh Birds Rarity Committee (WBRC) when their occurence becomes more regular or the BBRC may take back certain species if their occurence becomes less frequent.
In compiling these details, I have gone back to the original British Birds reports wherever possible to add page details as part of the references for accepted records. Where this hasn't been possible, I have either referenced previous publications - notably Birds of Anglesey (Hope and Whalley (2004) or local bird reports such as the Cambrian Bird Report.
While the work of the BBRC may be the 'official record', there are cases where local knowledge of the duration of stay - or the locations at which a bird was seen - differs to that of the BBRC record. Not all such differences can be resolved due to the passage of time, but I have attempted to capture additional 'local knowledge' where this exists.
The work of identifying past records was aided considerably by the work undertaken by Reg Thorpe is support of the WBRC / Welsh Ornithological Society in established an account of historical records. I am appreciative of Reg for both sharing his work in the first place and for enaging in discussion where there may have been an occassional challenge in respect of the accuracy of certain historical records such as location or age of the bird.
