Sevoflurane

Used for:

• Volatile sedative-hypnotic agent used for induction and/or maintenance of anesthesia 

• Rapid onset and recovery due to low blood:gas coefficient

CV Effects

• Decreased BP: Negative inotropy (reduces cardiac output) and systemic vasodilation 

• Minimal HR change

Respiratory Effects

• Decreased TV and RR: Depression of respiratory centers

• Bronchodilation

Contraindications:

• Malignant hyperthermia
