Atropine

Used for:

• First-line treatment for bradycardia

• Effective in treating bradycardia from the oculo-cardiac reflex during ophthalmic surgery

Mechanism:

• Inhibits postganglionic acetylcholine receptors (i.e., parasympathetic tone) and rapidly increases HR

Contraindications:

• Patients with glaucoma
