UHF Trough Cavity
UHF trough line cavity that is easy to build. It can be used for measurement, filtering, oscillator and down converter application. The measurements are in inches.
Tunable Trough Line Cavity:
This cavity resonator offers a simple and versatile tuning mechanism for frequencies ranging from 210 to 470 MHz. It caters to various applications by allowing the addition of components like antenna jacks, diodes, wire links, transistors, feed-through capacitors, and more.
Key Features:
Wideband Coverage: Covers the 220 MHz band, catering to individualists, UHF aircraft enthusiasts, the 420-450 MHz ham band, 460 MHz citizens band, and even "whining radar" applications.
Material Options: Primarily constructed from copper-clad laminate with the copper on the interior, but alternative materials are also viable.
Central Conductor: A 3-inch copper or brass rod forms the central conductor.
Dual Functionality: Operates as a wavemeter for calibrated measurements or a field strength meter for signal strength assessment.
Frequency Scaling: For lower frequencies increase the box size, lengthen the line, and employ a larger capacitor.
High-Frequency Configuration: For higher frequencies (1215-1300 MHz), reduce the box length by one-third while maintaining the width and depth. Utilize a brass screw or the brass core from a broken coil form with a suitable nut or bushing as the capacitor. This configuration provides optimal capacitance through the open top of the line. Exercise caution to avoid shorting, as this can result in a half-wave resonance instead of the desired quarter-wave, doubling the operating frequency.
Additional Notes:
This design prioritizes simplicity and ease of use.
Calibration is recommended for accurate wavemeter measurements.
The choice of materials and component values can be further optimized based on specific application requirements.
