Artifact description: During student teaching, this was our board in which we had our agenda and plans for the day. The board consisted of the objective for the day, the agenda of what students were going to do, the date, and announcements. The board also had an indicator of when devices could and could not be out.
Standard connection: This board really fits the Illinois teaching Standard 4 - Learning Environment this board provided the students with structure and a daily routine. The students knew what to do when they came into the classroom.
Reflection: Having an agenda really helped students to have a structure set up in the classroom. They always looked forward to seeing what the plan for the day was. They also did well with the use of phones because the board indicated to them when where they were able to use their phones which kept the classroom on pace and with minimal distractions. I was able to create a safe learning environment for all my students by simply applying an agenda on the board.
Artifact description: This artifact is a slide show/presentation for our students. This was the first week of student teaching and my cooperating teacher included me in the slide show because she wanted to go over the rules and expectations for the LDI math classes. (I have deleted her personal information but kept mine). This presentation not only had rules and expectations, but it also had information about us, the teachers and who we are.
Standard connection: This presentation fits the Illinois teaching Standard 4 - Learning Environment because the presentation went over the rules and expectations to keep a safe learning environment for our students.
Reflection: I believe that this slideshow/ presentation set the tone for the classroom because we set the rules at the beginning of the semester, but it also allowed students to get to know us and see that teachers are normal people too. The students got to learn about my personal life and my struggles of being a teen parent and going back to school. I believe that this presentation helped our learning environment because we created a place where students felt safe.
