Some keywords important to us! Diverse. Community. Inclusive. Cosy. Inspiring. Safer space. Friendly. Multilingual. Sustainability focus.
We ask that all attendees are respectful of each other, especially bearing in mind points raised in our Awareness Text. We know that it's impossible to have a 100% safe space, but as a community we are in a learning process to create safer spaces. Discrimination of any kind will not be tolerated.
We created Alpinehearts to celebrate women & LGBTQ+ in climbing, and so our festival focuses on this shared experience as one of our key aims to creating a more inclusive climbing community. Climbers of all abilities, experience and background are welcome.
Allies are also welcome but we ask that they be respectful of the core of the festival, and are encouraged to volunteer and help out! If you are unsure about whether Alpinehearts would be a good space for you, don't hesitate to reach out to us with any questions.
We are attempting to make Alpinehearts an accessible space for all, but at this time we are unfortunately not able to make this space fully wheelchair accessible, nor are the crags necessarily wheelchair user-friendly. Please contact us directly if you have any specific questions or specific accessibility requirements relating to vision, hearing, motor or cognitive impairments. You can contact us by email at info@alpinehearts-climbingfestival.com.
If you would like to sign up directly and have a few small queries, we have included a space in the form for you to fill out your access needs there.
Yes, you are so welcome!! We welcome people of all levels of experience at the festival! One of the key things we are about at Alpinehearts is to make getting into climbing a more inclusive experience for women & LGBQT+. For people whose first time it is climbing outdoors, we'd recommend taking workshops for all days that you wish to climb at the festival. Contact us if you want more information / reassurance!
In particular, we'd recommend some of the following workshops if you have never done lead climbing indoors or outdoors:
Climbing workshops:
Friday:
-Intro to Rock Climbing (Damaris Hardmeier)
-Crack Camp (Michelle Voss)
Saturday:
-Intro ins Sportklettern / Intro to Rock Climbing (Anna-Lea Wyss)
-Tips and tricks for short climbers (Vilja Jannti)
Sunday:
-Intro ins Sportklettern / Intro to Rock Climbing (Anna-Lea Wyss)
-Crack Camp (Michelle Voss)
-Beginner: The Rock Warrior’s Way Falling & Commitment Clinic (Alma Esteban)
Other workshops:
-Saturday and Sunday afternoon: Recycle your gear into new creations! (Gwen Sendit Recycling)
-Creative Writing: Queer mountains (Mathilde)
We'd recommend the following progressions, depending on how intense of a weekend you would like:
1 climbing day (easy):
Friday: Intro to Rock Climbing (Damaris Hardmeier)
or
Saturday: Intro ins Sportklettern / Intro to Rock Climbing (Anna-Lea Wyss)
or
Sunday: Intro ins Sportklettern / Intro to Rock Climbing (Anna-Lea Wyss)
2 climbing days (moderate):
Do one of the Intro to Rock Climbing courses on one day
On the other climbing day:

We are a multi-lingual, multi-cultural and multi-national organisation. Between all us organisers we speak over 7 languages and live in three different countries in the Alps.
The main languages spoken at the festival will be English, German and French. Workshops indicate in the workshop description which languages the instructors are going to be able to operate in. We hope to make the event language-accessible. Please contact us if you have feedback on this or questions for us.
See this page for more detailed information.
The two main accommodation options are the Gasthaus Goescheneralp (which is an add-on during your ticket purchase), or camping on the festival fields / sleeping in your vehicle (which is included in your base festival ticket). The fields belong to a lovely local farmer, giving us our very own private festival grounds.
The Gasthaus and fields have bathrooms and showers which you will be able to use. If you are driving to the festival / sleeping in your car, you will be able to park in the Gasthaus Goescheneralp parking.
You might want to take the opportunity at this festival to meet new people to climb with! During the festival, we will have a daily meetup to meet new climbing partners / groups. We've also created a Festival Whatsapp Community where we have a group to find climbing partners in advance or during the festival.
Note that we reccommend having medical insurance to cover you in the mountains.*
*We also remind you that climbing is an intrinsically dangerous support and that by attending the festival you agree to take responsibility for yourself.
If you are an independent climber, you are very welcome to climb independently of festival activities.
Note that we reccommend having medical insurance to cover you in the mountains.*
*We also remind you that climbing is an intrinsically dangerous support and that by attending the festival you agree to take responsibility for yourself.
See this page for where to find information on the crags in Goescheneralp, and what to expect.
We've prepare a packing list for you to help you! Check it out here.
Unfortunately we cannot host under 18s at the festival this year.
This is an outdoor climbing festival, and so the reality is that while we get to interact directly with nature's full beauty, it may shine, but it may also rain. Please come prepared for both eventualities (i.e. sunscreen, sunglasses, but also rainproof jacket, trousers, etc.)! We are also preparing for this eventuality on our side.
If you are attending a course, your instructor will get in touch with you to organise your meeting time & place, as well as any plan B if it rains. If you are not attending a course, we recommend if it rains, to consider hiking, and maybe visiting one of the nearby beautiful mountain huts nearby, Salbit Hütte, Dammahütte and Bergseehütte and treating yourself to a "heisse Schoggi" (a "hot chocolate" in Swiss German!).
Yes, at the camping there is one shower and several bathrooms. The Gasthaus also has several showers and bathrooms. Make sure to bring your toiletries and towel are on your packing list!
We will provide breakfast and lovingly home-cooked dinners, which is included in the festival price.
If you'd like to cook your own dinner, please bring your own stove, gas, pots and food!
The closest shop is a small Coop in Goeschenen, just a 20 minute drive from the festival grounds. If you need non-basic items, then a better bet is Andermatt which is towards Italy, or Wassen is the next town into Switzerland where e.g. you could buy camping gas if you need it.
Some participants might appreciate having a quiet space to take a break from socialising and the activity of the festival. We will have a dedicated quiet space indoors. We ask that all attendees are respectful of individuals in this space and do not use it for socialising or other gatherings.
