We are a group of women & LGBTQ+ climbers who have come together driven by a passion for making outdoor climbing a more inclusive place for all. Our key aims for the festival are:
Diversity: We want to improve the diversity of the climbing community, to create a space which feels welcoming for all, through being less heteronormative.
Community: Building our community across the Alps, connecting like-minded climbers with each other.
Empowering : Propelling our community towards joy and confidence in their own climbing, by becoming leaders and role models themselves for the community.
Sustainability: Emphasizing sustainable practices and care for the natural world as a core part of the practice of climbing.
LGBTQ+: Lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex, queer/questioning, asexual, +
FLINTA*: Female, lesbian, intersex, non-binary, trans, agender, *
Ally: an ally is someone who supports and educates themselves about, speaks out and advocates for a specific marginalized group of people
Safe Spaces: an environment intended to be free of bias, conflict, criticism, or potentially threatening actions, ideas, or conversation (Merriam-Webster). Alpinehearts intends to be such a safe space, with a particular focus on LGBTQ+ and FLINTA* climbers.
Code of Conduct: At the festival, we expect our attendees to adhere to a code of conduct that is respectful of all others, regardless of gender, sexual orientation, race, ability, or other factors.
We created Alpinehearts to celebrate women & LGBTQ+ in climbing, and so our festival focuses on this shared experience as one of our key aims to creating a more inclusive climbing community. Climbers of all abilities, experience and background are welcome.
Allies are also welcome but we ask that they be respectful of the core of the festival, and are especially encouraged to volunteer and help out! If you are unsure about whether Alpinehearts would be a good space for you, don't hesitate to reach out to us with any questions.
