Penn State had a big weekend as they improved to 14-2. They only played one match this weekend, which came on Friday against Maryland. The Nittany Lions won 5-1, thanks to 3 second-quarter goals. Maryland scored first, but once Sophia Gladieux opened scoring for Penn State, the Terps could not find the back of the net. Gladieux scored twice in the game, and Mackenzie Allessie had a goal and an assist. In goal, Brie Barraco had 3 saves.
Ohio State had a pair of wins this weekend. Their first win was a 2-1 game against Indiana. Indiana scored first, but Leanne Bough tied the game late in the third. Sarah Charley scored the second and final goal for the Buckeyes. Arabella Loveridge had 5 saves in the game. On Sunday they picked up a win against Bellarmine. Ohio State led 26-6 in shots and 16-3 in corners, in the 5-1 win. Bough opened the scoring in the 7th minute. Makenna Webster netted 3 goals, 2 in the third and 1 in the fourth.
Northwestern picked up an important Big 10 win on Friday against Michigan. It took 79 minutes of gameplay between the teams for someone to find the back of the net. Lauren Wadas was the overtime hero for the Wildcats, scoring her third goal of the season. Annabel Skubisz had 6 saves in the shutout.
Maryland sits first in the Big Ten at 7-1. Penn State trails slightly at 6-1. Northwestern and Michigan are both 4-3, and are in 3rd and 4th respectively. Iowa, Ohio State, and Rutgers all are 3-4, and Indiana and Michigan State are both 1-6.
Maine is still on top after a 2-1 win against UVM on Friday. Sydney Meader scored the first goal of the match, and Mallory Mackesy scored the game-winning goal with under 3 left in the game. Maine led in shots 19-15 and 8-7 in corners. In goal, Mia Borley had 9 saves.
A pair of fourth-quarter goals from Julie Rodijk gave UAlbany the edge over New Hampshire on Friday. The two goals came within 2 minutes of each other. UAlbany led in shots 14-3, however, those 3 shots resulted in 2 goals for the Wildcats.
UMass Lowell improved to 5-2 in conference play after a 4-1 win on Saturday. UMass Lowell had 34 shots and 18 corners in the match. Berbel Rozema opened the scoring for the Riverhawks. After a tying goal from Bryant, Jenna Berger took the lead back, and then Alissia De Vries knocked two in. De Vries also had 2 assists in the match, giving her a total of 6 points in the match.
Stanford finished their non-conference schedule with a 2-1 comeback win against Richmond. Neither team scored in the first half of the match. Richmond scored in the third quarter, but Caroline Guden answered early in the fourth on a corner. With less than 2 minutes left in the game, Haley Mossmer put the game-winning goal in.
Maine, UAlbany, UMass Lowell, and UVM have all clinched American East Tournament berths.
ODU got two wins this weekend. Their first win came against Temple, in a 2-0 Big East game. Delphine Le Jeune and Marlon De Bruijne both scored for the Monarchs. On Sunday, they finished their non-conference schedule with a 2-1 win against VCU. VCU was looking like they were going to win until De Bruijne scored in the 54th minute. Sanci Molkenboer scored the game-winner with 73 seconds left in the game.
Liberty picked up a win against Providence off of two goals from Lizzie Hamlett. Charlotte Vaanhold scored the other goal in the 3-1 victory.
UConn won their 18th consecutive win against Georgetown, in a 3-0 win on Friday. The Huskies scored twice in the first quarter, and then again in the second. Madi Herb scored the first and third goals of the game, and Erica Solomen scored the second. UConn did not give up any corners in the match and only allowed Georgetown to have 4 shots.
A last-minute goal gave Villanova a win against Quinnipiac on Friday. Villanova was able to score three goals before Quinnipiac was able to get on the board. Amanda Middleman scored the first two goals, and Noor Van De Laar made the game 3-0. With 12 seconds left in the third, Quinnipiac got on the board. They then converted on two of their four shots in the fourth. With 63 seconds left in regulation, Sabine De Ruijter converted on a corner to give the Wildcats the victory.
After the close loss to Villanova on Friday, Quinnipiac had a rather surprising win against U Penn on Sunday. This is the second-ranked win for the Bobcats this year. Eva Veldhorst and Emilia Massarelli scored for the Bobcats in the victory. The game was even in shots, with 12 each, and U Penn led 5-2 for corners.
Liberty remains undefeated in the Big East. ODU and UConn are both 5-1. Temple is 3-3. Villanova and Providence are both 2-4. Quinnipiac is 1-6. Last is Georgetown, at 0-6.
SJU picked up another A-10 win on Friday before falling to #1 UNC on Sunday. In a 6-0 win against Davidson, the scoring started early. Freke Van Tilburg scored in the second minute. Lily Santi added 3 goals to her 15-goal total, as she leads the team in goals, assists, and points. Robin Bleekemolen had 2 saves in her 30 minutes of play, while Janelle Ward did not face any shots. On Sunday, Bleekemolen had 7 saves in the 0-6 loss.
Lock Haven also picked up a win and a loss this weekend as they moved to 12-4. Their win came against A-10 opponent, VCU in a 2-1 game. After a quiet first quarter, LHU picked up the pace with a goal and 5 shots. In the third, VCU then picked up the pace, outshooting the Eagles 6-1 and scoring. Early in the fourth, Bynlee Pinschenat converted for the Eagles, for the eventual goal-winner. VCU did not let down the energy, with 10 shots coming in the fourth. They, however, were not able to convert thanks to Kelsey Felix, who had 8 saves in the game. On Sunday, they fell to Bucknell 2-3.
UMass Amherst moved to 5-1 in the A-10 after a 2-1 win against Richmond. Mia Smith and Bella Ianni both scored for the Minutewomen. Myrte Van Herwijnen recorded 5 saves in the shutout.
In a heavily defensive game for Saint Louis, La Salle put two balls in the cage in the fourth quarter for the win. Saint Louis did not record any shots until the fourth quarter, however, their goal had 7 saves to stop La Salle's 9 shots. A few minutes into the fourth, Tatum Johnson scored the first one for the Explorers and Peyton Tollaksen put the second goal in.
SJU is currently undefeated in the A-10 at 6-0. LHU and UMass are tied at 5-1. VCU and La Salle are tied at 3-3. Richmond sits at 2-4, and Davidson and SLU are tied at 0-6.
UNC continues their undefeated streak at 14-0 after two wins this weekend. Their first win came against UVA, in a 3-1 game. Matson scored two goals for the Tar Heels, and Siestske Bruning scored the other goal. UVA put up a good fight, matching them in corners and falling just short in shots. On Sunday, they faced a non-conference opponent in a 6-0 win against SJU. Ryleigh Heck had a heck of a game for UNC with 3 goals. She has the second most goals in the team with 13, just behind Matson who added another to her 20-goal total. Matson also tallied 3 assists in the match. Kennedy Cliggett and Paityn Wirth added goals to the total.
Cuse had a pair of wins this weekend in two closely-contested matches. In Friday's game, Cuse picked up a 3-2 win against Louisville. Quirine Comans opened and closed the scoring for the Orange, scoring in the 41st and the 55th. In the middle of Comans's goals, the Cards scored two and Willemijn Boogert scored for Cuse. Syracuse hosted Rutgers on Sunday, to celebrate the Orange's 10 seniors. Rutgers opened the scoring in the second, but Sabine van den Eijnden matched the game. Eefke van den Nieuwenhof then put the Orange up, before Rutgers evened the score again. Boogert and Joy Haarman then added two, to give the Orange a senior night victory.
Maxwell scored three for Wake Forest to give them a 4-2 victory against BC. Sky Caron scored the other goal for Wake in the game. Wake Forest outshot BC in a landslide, 17-5. On Sunday, they played Brown and came out with a 4-0 win. Four different players scored for Wake Forest. Ellie Todd had 3 saves in the win.
UNC, unsurprisingly, is undefeated in the ACC. Wake Forest is 4-1. Cuse is 3-2. UVA is 3-3. BC is 2-3. Louisville is 1-4. Duke is in last at 0-5
App State had 11 goals this weekend, after wins against Ball State and Queens. The match against Ball State, was closely contested, going into double overtime before seeing a goal. App State had the offensive edge in the game with 20 shots and 9 corners, but Ball State's goalkeeper did a good job at keeping them scoreless. In the 76th minute, Anna Smarrelli was able to capitalize on a diving goal, to give the Mountaineers the win. On Sunday they played against Queens, where they posted a 10-1 victory. Sarah Farrell and Bridget Donovan each scored 2, and six other players had one apiece.
The Red Hawks zero goals against them this weekend, thanks to Isabelle Perese's 10 saves and Maggie Jones's 1. Their first game had a 6-0 scoreline against Central Michigan. Claudia Negrete Garcia scored the first two goals on Friday. After her two, Kennedy Vinson, Paula Pena Martinez, Luli Rosso, and Mary Kate Barbee all found the back of the net in the win. Negrete Garcia also recorded 2 assists in the game. On Sunday, they faced Michigan State and win 2-0. Rosso and Lily Petersen scored for the Red Hawks. MSU did not go down easy, posting 13 shots and 8 corners, but Perese had an impressive game in goal to give Miami the victory.
Ohio went 1-1 this weekend off a win against Bellarmine and a loss against Indiana. In the 4-0 win against Bellarmine, Katelyn Whittle scored a pair, and Lucy Davis and Meela Koop scored one each. Koop and Davis also had assists in the match. With a high offensive effort, the Bobcats were kept off the scoreboard in the first half but were able to capitalize in the second half despite four players receiving cards. In the game against Indiana, they fell 0-3, despite 3 saves from Macy Lotze and 9 from Nele Graner. Emilt Risser also recorded a defensive save in the game.
Kent State also had a 1-1 weekend, with a win against Longwood before falling to UVA. The win against Longwood was a hard-fought battle that eventually ended in shootouts. Kent State scored the first two games of the match, coming off the sticks of Katie Wuerstle and Maria Cambra Soler. Despite high offensive pressure in the second half, Longwood found the back of the net two times in the fourth to tie the match at 2-2. Kent State recorded 12 shots in overtime, but was not able to convert, leading the game to shootouts. After four shootouts, the Flashes had obtained the victory. Wuerstle, Sydney Washburn, and Jenna McCrudden all converted on their attempts, and Cecile van Eijck only allowed two balls past her. In the 0-3 loss against UVA, Kent State recorded just 3 shots, and van Eijck posted 8 saves.
After losing to Kent State on Friday, Longwood bounced back with a 3-2 overtime win against Georgetown. Georgetown led the game at halftime 2-1, after Maroussia Walchiers scored for Longwood. A few minutes into the third quarter, Floor Schouten hit in a goal off a rebound to tie the match. With seconds remaining in the first overtime period, Walckiers was able to win the game for the Lancers.
Miami and Kent State are both 5-1 in the MAC. App State and Ball State are both 4-2. Behind them is Ohio at 3-3, Bellarine at 2-4, Longwood at 1-5, and Central Michigan at 0-6.
Usually, I try to stay in order, but we just have to talk about Cornell's win against Louisville on Sunday! Julia Darmo scored early for Cornell, just 4 minutes into the match. The game would then go scoreless until the 56th minute when Claire Jones found the back of the net. Louisville posted 11 shots in the game, but Aerin Park stood strong in goal with 7 saves. In the 50 years of Cornell Field Hockey, this is the biggest win for the program. Cornell is now ranked 24th in the NFHCA poll and 23rd in RPI.
Cornell did also pick up a conference win on Friday, coming against Brown. Caroline Ramsey scored the lone goal of the match. The game was low on the offensive end, with 2 shots for Cornell and 5 for Brown. The game was, however, heavy on cards with Cornell receiving 4, 2 yellows, and 2 greens. Brown received one yellow.
Princeton moved to 5-0 in the Ivies after an upset against Harvard. Since the Ivy League does not have a tournament, having an undefeated record is a ticket to the NCAA tournament. Going into the match, both teams were 4-0. 8 minutes into the game, it looked like Princeton was going to be the one to walk out still undefeated after recording 3 goals. Harvard fired two in, to give Princeton a run for their money. Sammy Popper hammered in the fourth goal for the. Tigers to let them remain as the only undefeated team in the conference.
Ellie Barlow was the overtime hero for the Bulldogs, in a 3-2 win against Penn on Saturday. Penn scored first, and the score remained in their favor through halftime. Alissa Wong then scored for Yale to tie the match, and just a minute later, Lily Ramsey put them up. Early in the fourth, Courtney Kenah retied the game. The game was sent into overtime, where Barlow scored in the 4th minute of the 1st overtime period to give Yale the win.
Columbia had a 1-1 weekend, picking up a win against Dartmouth and a loss to New Hampshire. The first three-quarters of the Columbia-Dartmouth game remained scoreless. Dartmouth opened scorning in the 49th minute. With one minute on the board, it looked like Dartmouth had it. with 45 seconds remaining, Elizabeth Brissette scored for Columbia to tie the match. Overtime was seeming likely when Lily Baker came up big for the Lions and score with four seconds remaining. The Lions fell to New Hampshire 1-2 on Sunday.
Princeton is the current leader at 5-0. Harvard fell to 4-1. Both Cornell and Columbia are 3-2, Yale and Penn are 2-3, Brown is 1-4, and Dartmouth is 0-5.
Rider has moved to the top of the conference, after wins against LIU and Wagner. On Friday they won 3-2 against LIU. Semra Said and Valeria Perales scored the first two goals of the game before Felicia King tried to even the match with a goal. Sierra Giuliano scored the third goal for the Broncs, giving them the win. Giving Wagner their first conference loss of the year, the Broncs won 2-0 off of goals from Kiera Guckavan and Indy Zoontjens. Rider received five cards in the game, with most due to playing too aggressively.
Despite the Rider loss on Sunday, Wagner did pick up a huge win against Fairfield on Friday, beating the Stags for the first time in program history. Julia Pastorino scored first for the Seahawks. Daisy Ruhle was able to keep the Stags quiet until the 40th minute. Laura van Hamburg scored the game-winning goal off a corner in the 57th minute to give the Seahawks the win.
The Stags came back on Sunday to pick up a win against LIU, in a 3-2 game. LIU looked like they might have had the win, which would have kicked Fairfield out of the NEC tournament, after 2 unanswered goals. Nora Amme was not going to let that happen. Amme scored all 3 Stags goals, making her total for the season 7 goals.
Saint Francis made their way into the NEC tournament after a victorious weekend against Merrimack and Stonehill. Eugenia Kenny had 3 points in the 3-2 win against Merrimack. Claudia Ortiz and Carysse Norris both scored for the Red Flash, as well. Eva Valentini was the hero for the Red Flash, after scoring the lone goal in the game against Stonehill. Both Amber Bryan and Chloe South recorded one save each in the win against Stonehill.
Sacred Heart picked up their first conference win and second win of the season on Friday against Stonehill. Claire Skumurski scored first for the Pioneers. Stonehill then matched the score. Not long after, Aine Keaney scored her 5th goal of the year. Mira Poelzer then added one more to the tally. Mikayla Vanhorn scored the fourth goal for the Pioneers to give them the win. In goal, Sammie Maresca had 3 saves. Sacred Heart had 27 shots compared to Stonehill's 9, and led in corners 12-5.
Merrimack picked up their first win of the season, and their fourth as a D1 program, on Sunday in a 2-1 win against Sacred Heart. Abby Allen scored for the Warriors just seconds after halftime. After SHU tied the game late in the third, Katelyn Bennett scored with 17 seconds left on the clock for the win. Merrimack led in shots 14-8 and in corners 13-3.
Rider (5-1), Wagner (5-1), Fairfield (4-2), and SFU (4-2) have all clinched NEC Tournament berths.
American picked up a win on Saturday against Bucknell, in a 3-2 game. Megan Hoffman, Federica Turina Dellamaggiore, and Charllene Boshoff all scored for American. In goal, Bryn Underwood had 5 saves.
Lehigh had a big win against Holy Cross in a 3-0 win. Three different players scored in the win in three different quarters. Sarah Bonthuis scored in the first, Lotte Smorenburg scored in the second, and Eleni Kountroubis scored in the fourth. Maddie Kahn had 3 saves in the shutout.
Molly McAndrew led the Leopards in scoring in a 5-1 win against Colgate. McAndrew recorded 2 goals and 1 assist. Lineke Spaans had 1 goal and 1 assist. Hannah Findlay and Tara Hamilton both added goals for Lafayette. The Leopards limited Colgate to just 3 shots, with only one being on goal.
Boston U's win this week came on Tuesday, in a game against Maine. Despite Maine being the seemingly better team in rankings, Boston won the game 5-2. Payton Anderson and Tess Csejka both scored twice before Maine even got on the board. Up 4-2, Anderson managed to record another goal within the last two minutes. Anderson now had 8 goals for the season and Csejka has 9. BU then fell in a game against BC on Sunday.
Bucknell went 1-1 for the weekend, losing to American on Saturday and then bouncing back to beat Lock Haven on Sunday. Lily Neilson had herself a day, with the first goal in the match and then the game-winner in the last 5 minutes. Kayla Kisthardt scored in between Neilson's goals to give Bucknell the win. LHU put up a good fight with 13 goals and 10 corners, but Nora Frederick had 4 big saves in goal to keep the Bison on top.
BU, American, Lehigh, and Bucknell have all clinched berths in the Patriot League tournament.
Annick van Lange had 6 goals this weekend for Monmouth in two wins. Her first 3 goals came in a 4-3 win against Northeastern. Maggie Downs scored the fourth goal of the match in the last two minutes, to give the Hawks the win. Van Lange then had 3 more goals on Sunday in a 4-0 win against Towson. Jess Tucker scored the 4th goal for the Hawks. Van Lange has 19 goals for the season and 4 assists, giving her 42 points this year and 160 career points.
William and Mary had a 4-0 win against Towson on Friday. Aidan Rossman scored in the first quarter. Lauren Curran and Aubrey Scott King added two more goals in the second. Amber Bode finished up the scoring the third. In goal, Maddie George had 2 saves for the shutout.
Drexel went 1-1 this weekend with a win against Hofstra and a loss against Northeastern. Eline Di Leva scored in the 5th minute for Drexel. Hofstra was then able to keep Drexel quiet for two quarters despite 7 shots and 7 corners. Natali Foster was able to get the second goal of the game in early in the fourth quarter. On Sunday, they fell 0-1 to Northeastern.
Delaware had a great weekend, with 2 in-conference wins to give them first place in the CAA. Northeastern scored two before Del could get on the board. Berber Bakermans and Julia Duffhuis scored one goal each to tie the score. Neither team could score in the extra time, so the game was forced into shootouts. Delaware went 3-2 in shootouts for the victory. On Sunday, the Blue Hens put up 6 goals in a 6-4 victory against Hofstra. Each goal was scored by a different Blue Hen. 4 of the goals came from starters, and 2 goals came from subs. Izzy Rothwell and Genevieve Johnson recorded their first career goals in the game.
In the loss to Delaware, Jonna Kennedy recorded 6 saves for Northeastern. On Sunday, Northeastern won 1-0 against Drexel. Kennedy had 3 saves in the goal for the shutout. The game-winning goal came in the third quarter from Mak Graves.
Delaware, Monmouth, Drexel, and Northeastern have all clinched CAA championship berths.
JMU picked up 2 more wins this weekend and a loss, improving them to 10-6. They traveled to California and started the week at Stanford on Thursday. Stanford had a 2-0 lead at halftime but then Diede Remijnse and Eveline Zwager tied the match. Unfortunately, they were not enough as Stanford scored under a minute into the first overtime period. They then played UC Davis and won 4-1. Zwager scored 3 goals and Lauren Satchell scored one. Their final game on the west coast was a 2-1 win against Cal. Skyler Brown and Morgan Merritt scored for the Dukes. All three JMU goalies saw playing time last week. Brandelynn Heinbaugh recorded the most minutes, but 0 saves. Chiara van Eek played in two of the games and recorded 2 saves. Katie Fricke played in one game and recorded 1 save.
Lindenwood fell to App State 1-4 on Monday before picking up a D2 loss on Wednesday and a D3 win on Sunday.
Queens fell to App State 1-10 on Sunday. Fay Van De Roer scored the lone goal for Queens.
