The competent teacher differentiates instruction by using a variety of strategies that support critical and creative thinking, problem-solving, and continuous growth and learning. This teacher understands that the classroom is a dynamic environment requiring ongoing modification of instruction to enhance learning for each student.
What I did: I created this flip project based on if I was teaching elementary students. My flip project contains a lesson based on physical education. I used many of my own examples because I want my students to see that I am not making them do something that I can’t even do. This flip project was produced to give a different aspect on teaching rather than it being face to face making students participate in a different setting.
Standard Connection: Through creating this flip project I understood the reason behind teaching online and why it can come in handy especially in times where you have no choice. When creating this flip project I learned a lot about how I could use this type of teaching in my future classroom. Specifically being a physical education teacher I feel as if this flip project showed me creative ways I can interact with my students to help them stay active even at home or during time off of school. For example one performance indicator presented by my flip project is 5N which states “uses technology to accomplish differentiated instructional objectives that enhance learning for each student” Like I said before I want to implement this for students to look back at and perform at home and on their own time to keep them physically active even when they are not in class. Another performance indicator that my flip project portrayed was 5L which says “develops a variety of clear, accurate presentations and representations of concepts, using alternative explanations to assist students’ understanding and presenting diverse perspectives to encourage critical and creative thinking” In my flip project I use my voice, images, and movement to demonstrate to my students because some students may need me to speak the directions out loud or some students may need visual to understand the directions. Also students with disabilities can benefit from this too because it allows them to rewatch the video multiple times and hear my voice.
Description of what I learned: Creating this flip project helped me prepare for the future. This flip project opened me up to technology and how beneficial it can be inside and outside the classroom. Creating this flip project made me think of new ideas that I would bring to my future classroom interpreting me teaching online and interacting with my students in an online setting as well as a face to face setting. Making this project I learned how teachers can use different teaching skills and it does not always have to be face to face and this may change things for my future classroom. I want to be able to work with my students because some may like the idea of learning online and others may not and I want to give that a try in my future classroom. This project was very new to me but helped me grow as a professional and gave me a new perspective for online learning.
Video of Instructional Delivery
Rationale: This is a video of me teaching a lesson at Neuqua Valley High school to the adaptive/peer partner class. This was a an assembly bell schedule day so classes were cut shorter and I came up with a fun game. This was an engaging and simple game called hungry hungry hippos. In the video you will see me explain the directions and also relate this game to a childhood game some students may have played before.
Standard Connection: This artifact connects to the standards 5E) knows techniques for modifying instructional methods, materials, and the environment to facilitate learning for students with diverse learning characteristics;. In the video you will notice me say if a student does not feel comfortable or does not want to sit on the scooters they can just walk. In my directions I also mention to the peers that one peer must be with an athlete at all times and help them through the game. I think this video really demonstrates an environment where students with diverse learning characteristics all have a chance to succeed. Teaching this class was a great experience for me and I learned so many different ways to modify my lessons to meet all my students needs.
Self Evaluation: This class was a joy to teach and such an experience. This lesson was actually not the lesson I planned on teaching that day but I wanted to switch things up and thought the students would really enjoy this activity. This was such a simple yet classic game that can be done at any age level. There also many ways you can modify this game or even be creative and add new things.
