Thank you for visiting my page:)
This is a site to show my creative writing works in the fall semester, 2021.
・・・ About ME ・・・
Welcome to my site! This is Nanami IGUSA. I am a sophomore student at AIU (17th). I like reading heartwarming novels, especially, my favorite writer is Ogawa Ito. I've never produced poems or stories before I took this class, but I really enjoyed boosting my creativity and imagination throughout this semester. I shared two persona poems on this page. Both of them are related to current social issues. I hope you enjoy it! Thank you.
This poem is about criticizing overconsumption in the fashion industry. Abandoned clothes (fast-fashion) are screaming because they deserve to be treated better. I want you to know that clothes piling up in landfills leads to environmental disasters. Why don't you think about being an ethical consumer with me?
Fast-Fashion
One season is now over
and, we died
Our life is too short
We were so popular, but
You don’t need “Green Ash”
“Marigold”
“French Blue” anymore
We lose our luster in no time
living like mayflies
We wish we could be vintage, but
It won’t come true
Just live for a moment
We are cheap
Feel worthless
Useless
and, here we are
The unending reclaimed land
Mountains of abandoned clothes
Gray smoke covers us
Smells stench
The earth is no longer breathing
Our voices are buried under the landfill
Dying bodies exhaling their final screaming
Don’t treat me like that!
Don’t leave us behind!
How dare you
At first glance, this poem seems to describe a flower itself and the cycle of seasons. Yet, what’s behind is that female empowerment. Women who are suffering from gender issues (EX: DV, sexual violence, discrimination, etc) represent each petal of cherry blossom. They come together and fight together against injustice. Cold winter and blizzard represent gender issues that women are facing.
A petal of cherry blossom
Long long winter
Cold harsh blizzard
Wind blows violently
We endure cold winter
Strong enough to stand
Wait patiently
Still in tiny buds
Nobody cares us
But, everything has an end
***
Flowing spring breeze
The time has come
To bloom and to speak out
We shine in the glorious sunlight
Wearing a beautiful PINK dress
Waves of cherry blossoms
My body majestically rise
With deep root growth
Full of vital power
