Student Services


The University of Essex's student services promote multiculturalism and diversity in order to make the campus hospitable and conducive to study for all of its students. There are more than 30 different cultural societies available at the University of Essex for its students, who represent 140 different countries.


More than 15,000 students make up Essex University's student union, which strives to be the best student-centered organisation in the world. The central mission of the Essex Student Union is to continuously support and help everyone. For the benefit of the students, a number of pop-ups have been placed across the campus.

Accommodation

The University of Essex offers guaranteed housing for the first year to all new students at its Colchester and Southend campuses. The on-campus housing is outfitted with 24-hour security to ensure that all students are safe at all times. Over 16 students are allowed to live together in an apartment or flat with private rooms and a communal kitchen.


Depending on where you live, self-catered students should expect to pay anything from £100 per week to more than £200 for housing. If students want to avoid paying such a high price for housing, they have a number of economical options.


With a 90% student satisfaction rating from international students living in on-campus housing, the University of Essex is the proud recipient of the coveted International Housing Quality Mark accreditation.

Transport

For University of Essex students, getting around the campus and town is very easy. Accommodations in Colchester and Southend are convenient to the main campus. Students have the option of biking or taking a short walk to and from the campus. On-campus bike parking is also offered in a secure location.

The best modes of transportation to get from the Colchester Campus to the town centre and London are the bus and railroad.


The Southend Campus is near the airport and is easily accessible by train from Central London.


The Loughton Campus is accessible by train and is situated near to London. The main campus is about a 5-minute walk from the Debden underground station.


Location


A second state-of-the-art campus for the University of Essex is located in Southend, one of the safest towns in the UK. From central London, all three campuses and Harwich Port can be accessed in an hour. The Southend campus, which was recently built at a cost of several million pounds, is easily accessible from the High Street. From Liverpool Street station, the Debden London Underground station on the east end of the Central Line is just a five-minute walk away, and it takes 35 minutes to get to the Loughton campus.
