History of Northumbria University

The Rutherford College in Newcastle upon Tyne, established in 1880, is where the University of Northumbria in the UK had its start. The university was formerly classified as a polytechnic.

Three institutions in the Newcastle area, Rutherford Institute of Technology, The College of Art and Industrial Design, and The Municipal College of Commerce, were combined to become the university in 1969. Newcastle Polytechnic expanded on the foundations of these reputable colleges to become one of the top polytechnic institutions in the nation.

Due to the opening of the City College of Education in 1984, the polytechnic became the centre for initial teacher preparation. Also incorporated in 1976 was the Northern Counties College of Education. In 1976, the polytechnic began providing training in occupational therapy and physiotherapy in addition to nurse education.

The institute was finally given university status in 1992. Since the university opened campuses both domestically and abroad in London and Amsterdam, it has affiliated as a research institute.

Almost 30,000 students from more than 140 nations attend the University of Northumbria's four campuses spread across the United Kingdom. The University of Northumbria is one of the UK's top universities and has received a silver TEF award.

The location of Northumbria's Newcastle Campus offers the students a fantastic social environment. Living Accommodations

The cost of housing for students can go up to £12,180.

Once their offer has been accepted, all new undergraduates at the University of Northumbria are given housing. Both catered and self-catered lodgings are available. The main structure is only a short walk away from more than 5,000 rooms that are located on or around the campus. There is also convenient access to direct public transportation to bring you there.
